True Colors: NYC’s Top Spots for Fall Foliage

You don't have to head north to see stunning leaf displays. Head here to be wowed by the season in the city!

While we’ve certainly experienced some steamy days this fall, it is October, which means the leaves on area trees will soon start to turn. (The Old Farmer’s Almanac, predicts an especially vivid show this year, with NYC enjoying peak colors through the end of October. For up-to-date status of things, check out New York State’s fall foliage report.) A trip out of town is nice, but you don’t have to leave the city to see incredible color. Click through to find spots for gorgeous vistas, unique vantage points and full-on autumn splendor.

Prospect Park

Brooklyn's answer to Central Park is no slouch when it comes to fall colors, either, and a recommended route is across the Park's Longmeadow and through the Ravine, Brooklyn only forest. Here you'll find Red Maples, Sugar Maples, Sour Gums, Sweetgums, Sassafrass and Hackberry trees, along with streams, waterfalls and rustic bridges. For less "into the woods" options, check out the open, sprawling Longmeadow or around Prospect Park Lake, on the south side of the park. While you're there, keep an eye out for the many migrating birds, and if you want expert assistance exploring and discovering the Park's floral and fauna, head to the Audubon Center , which offers tons of family-friendly, free programming now and year-round.
