The third annual “Life-Size Family Game Night” returns during the weekly Farmer’s Market at Otay Ranch Town Center. Families can battle it out in a giant game of Connect Four, match wits in Kerplunk, enjoy the sweet competition of Candyland with life-size candies and so much more! During this annual event, the Chula Vista Branch Library at Otay Ranch Town Center will host a one-of-a-kind battle afternoon with free life-size versions of family favorites along with a variety of other games presented by local community partners and mall tenants.

From 5-7 p.m., in addition to the lineup of the market’s regular selection of certified farm stands, unique street foods and handicraft items, shoppers and families can come play:

Candyland
Connect Four
Concentration/Giant Memory
Kerplunk!
Giant Tumble Blocks (like Jenga)
Other fun outdoor games such as Hopscotch to pass the time between giant game battles

The afternoon will be filled with other free activities in addition to the Life-Size Family Games, such as: face painting,
balloon animals and kids’ crafts.

What would happen if kids were in charge of classifying animals? We would end up with groups like RINGTAILS, MOHAWKS and HALF STRIPES. Modern day versions of natural history plates and field guides examine taxonomy and convergent evolution of mammals. The gallery is in front of a toy shop. There will activities for kid’s ages 2-12. Great for nature lovers of all ages.

Kids it’s time to paint your own Tiki! A 20″ wooden Tiki will be provided (there are several styles for the kids to choose from), paint and brushes and sealant all for $45 for those who RSVP. The day of the event the cost will be $60 at the door.

Calling all brick lovers! This one-of-a-kind experience will celebrate and honor the history of the United States through iconic buildings and architectural structures, all of which are made entirely of LEGO® bricks by the LEGO® master builders.

Attendees will be able to see famous landmarks such as:
The White House
The Liberty Bell
The Jefferson Memorial
The Statue of Liberty
The Supreme Court

Along with the amazing models, there will also be hands-on activities such as a LEGO Play Area and a Follow the Map Find the Model activity.

Note: A Make & Take build event will be held August 11-12 from noon-4 p.m. on the 2nd level outside Kizuki Ramen.

The Body Shop and Animal Haven welcome you to this local adoption event as part of The Body Shop’s Forever Against Animal Testing campaign – which aims to ban animal testing in cosmetics everywhere, forever. Pet, snuggle and share some love with four-legged friends, and help them reach their goal to end animal testing in cosmetics!

 

Jazzy Ash invites the whole family to come along on a Crescent City-inspired, jazzy music adventure with her band the Leaping Lizards. Her songs celebrate the magic of movement, with a lot of sugar and sass thrown in, New Orleans–style. Her latest album, Swing Set features gypsy jazz, zydeco, swing, blues, and Dixieland to encourage kids and families to celebrate the music of New Orleans as part of the American folk music heritage.

Space Station Museum visitors will get to meet and talk with legendary astronauts who flew to the moon, piloted the Space Shuttle, walked in space and lived on the International Space Station. Guests will enjoy a panel discussion with the astronauts and scientists and several book signing opportunities. Plus explore space science exhibits (for all ages) from NASA and various science centers, touch real moon rocks, view the Sun through at telescope and revel at the many artifacts from The Space Station Museum’s extensive collection on display in the museum’s gallery.

Every second Saturday of the month, museum educators lead a program that combines a book reading, activities, and a chance to look more closely at the museum’s collections. This month, explore the amazing diversity of birds by reading “Birds” by Kevin Henkes, looking at related collection objects, and making cardboard binoculars to search for birds in the exhibitions and in your neighborhood!
