Pinocchio is coming soon thanks to Disney+ Day

The season of reboots continues! Disney+ has just dropped the first length trailer for the newest updated classic, Pinocchio, in all its live-action glory.

The film is a remake of the 1940 classic movie that has been a fan favorite for over 80 years, and appears to put its own special touch on things. The second animated film for Disney, Pinocchio was based on the 1883 Italian book The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi.

Pinocchio Plot

Just like the original, the story will follow Geppetto’s wooden puppet, Pinocchio, on his quest to become a real boy. While the movie is a new take on the OG film, there are plenty of throwbacks, including Geppetto’s prayer, “Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight.” We will also be treated to the iconic Disney tune, which originated in the film, “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

Pinocchio Cast

Pinocchio stars Tom Hanks as Geppetto, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy, Keegan-Michael Key as “Honest” John and Luke Evans as The Coachman. Also joining the cast is Lorraine Bracco as Sofia the Seagull, Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le as her marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

Pinocchio Release Date

The rebooted film will release on Sept. 8 for Disney+ Day. Additionally, the streaming day builds up to the D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. During Disney+ Day, viewers will be treated to special experiences and new content from Disney’s marquee brands. While you wait for the newest flick to hit the platform, you can brush up on the original animated version of Pinocchio, which is streaming now.
