Best known for its rotating regional menu and décor, the 5 Spot is well-known to Seattle families. But, let’s talk about their comfort food. If you can look past the regional menu (we know it’s hard!), you’ll find comfort food classics such as open faced hot turkey sandwiches, buttermilk dipped fried chicken and brisket.

Catfish Corner
2726 E Cherry Street, Seattle
Hushpuppies, cornbread muffins, collard greens, candied yams – do we need to say more? Catfish Corner serves family-friendly Southern-style comfort food at its very best. Oh wait, did we tell you about the peach and pecan pies? Catfish Corner also has a location in Kent for families on the south end of Seattle (25445 204^th Avenue SE, Kent).

Icon Grill

If you’re downtown and craving some comfort food, pop on over to the Icon Grill. Despite not having a children’s menu, kids are perfectly welcome at Icon and they’ll love the fun, colorful décor (get them one order of the Ultimate Macaroni and Cheese to share – and we dare you not to take a bite!). The meatloaf should be your first comfort food pick at the Icon Grill, with the fried chicken coming in as a close second.

Kingfish Café
1602 19th Avenue E, Seattle
The comfort food at the Kingfish Café is best enjoyed on a date night. The Kingfish is one of Seattle’s best and most underappreciated dining spots. The food is delicious and the atmosphere will make you wish every night was date night. It’s hard to pick a favorite from their comfort food filled menu – the fried green tomatoes? Southern Kitchen
1716 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma
Hopefully, Tacoma families don’t mind sharing their kid-friendly comfort food hotspot with other northwest parents! Whether you live close to Tacoma or are in the area (maybe visiting the Point Defiance Zoo?), stop by the award winning Southern Kitchen for cornbread stuffing, homemade biscuits and gravy and sweet potato pie. Kids will gobble up their mac n’ cheese, so you’d better order your own!

Village Square Café

With the motto, “We believe comfort food NEVER goes out of style,” the Village Square Café in Redmond is worth the drive to the Eastside. They are only open for breakfast and lunch (until 3:00 pm), but after this hearty meal, you probably won’t need dinner! The chicken fried steak is beyond incredible – it may look big on the plate, but after everyone in your family takes a bite, there won’t be much left!
