A Seattle Story

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Lizzy. She was always writing and was often lost in her own little dream world. Her mom saved a note from her first-grade teacher which reads in part, “Dear Lizzy, Perhaps one day I will go to a library and find one of your books on a shelf. Remember to read and write each day.” Well, Liz Gallagher grew up, went to college (where she earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College) and moved to Seattle where she worked with preschool kids, sold children’s books, and pursued her writing dream by becoming a freelance writer and the editor of Red Tricycle. One day, her inner voice spoke to her (an admittedly perpetual-15-year-old voice) and a story evolved; a coming of age novel for teens that takes place in familiar spots all over Seattle. The artistic young heroine, Alice, takes readers on a journey chock-full of high school themes of feeling invisible versus fitting-in, and the difference between friendship and first love. The Opposite Of Invisible, from Wendy Lamb Books, a division of Random House, was released on January 8 to rave reviews and Liz is one of the featured authors this month on Random House’s teen community site, randombuzzers.com.

Come celebrate (and bring all the young teens you know) with Liz at her book release party, this Saturday, January 19 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at All For Kids Books & Music. Have a book signed and enjoy live music by Rachel Harrington, yummy munchies & bevs. Bring the little ones too…after all it’s a kids’ book store!
