This week unleashes a juggernaut of new kids’ music and entertainment from some talented local musicians, artists and visionaries. Check it out.

Rock On, Monkey

134_1If you don’t know local “kindie rock” band Recess Monkey, now’s your chance to fall in love with their music. If you do know them, then you know you want the new CD (Stefan at zoogobble.com is already raving about it). This weekend brings the group’s third release, a double-disc set of catchy songs and hilarious narration called WONDERSTUFF. Recess Monkey describes their sound at “the Muppets meets the Beatles” – they mix delightful wackiness with catchy songs that remind us of the Beach Boys, too. In celebration, you’re invited to a big party at Experience Music Project’s Family Day on Saturday, October 20.

Welcome New Baby
134_3The talented Mercer Island husband & wife duo Rob and Lisi Wolf (of OyBaby fame) are proud parents of a new baby, or more precisely, That Baby DVD, a music video geared to little ones from 0-5 years old and their families. The DVD offers a mix of gentle human interaction, animation and puppetry with a soundtrack that parents will dig; an eclectic mix of acoustic cover tunes, encompassing everything from classic rock tunes (Pretenders, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac) to contemporary artists like Johnny Lang and Natalie Merchant. Northwest singer/songwriter Stephanie Schneiderman produced the soundtrack and provides many of the gorgeous vocals along with a number of other accomplished artists. Watch a portion of the video here.
