With the year’s sweetest holiday just around the corner, go beyond chocolates and conversation hearts and plan a special treat-making adventure with your lil’ sweetheart. Edible Valentines

Cupcake Royale 
Royal events are in store for this year’s happy heart day at Cupcake Royale—from new choc-tas-tic flavors to a variety of sweetheart events. Drool-in to one of the six neighborhood cafes for cupcake tasting, decorating, coloring (or a date night!). Special Sprinkle Bars will be open for your little chocolatiers to decorate their own cupcake and kids can participate in a cupcake-coloring contest and enjoy music and prizes. Best of all, everyone can enter to win a Sprinkle Party for up to eight people.

The Sweet Details: February 8 is Kids Date Day at the West Seattle, Ballard and Queen Anne shops from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. February 9-16 is Royale Date Night at all stores from 3 p.m. to close. During Date Nights, enjoy one Deathcake and two (12 oz) coffee bar drinks for $13. To make this even sweeter if you Instagram, Facebook or Tweet a picture of your date night and tag @cupcakeroyale you will get 2 FREE cupcake cards for your next visit. February 11 is the DIY Sprinkle Party at all locations from 3 p.m.- 5 p.m. For $4 you will get to decorate your own cupcake and pick from the prize box!

Sprinkles and Sweets
Known for its delish treats and kids’ classes and camps, Sprinkles and Sweets is going to be a hot spot this Valentine’s Day. Join your little sweet tart for a delicious cookie decorating class, where you’ll learn the basics of how to frost cookies while creating a bouquet or wrapped cookie assortment. Who can resist a tasty treat from your little sweet?

The Sweet Details: Classes take place on Feb. 13 from 3:30 p.m–5:30 p.m. and Feb. 14 from 10 a.m.–noon. Cost is $42/student. Best for ages 6 & up. Email annabella@sprinklesandsweets.com to sign up.

Frog Legs Kids Culinary Academy
Hop over to Frog Legs Culinary Academy and get your Valentine’s Day cooking and crafting on. For munchkins 4 and older, each child will get to make 24 butterfly lollipop valentines (think class gifts!), a valentine heart paper topiary, and of course some chocolate valentine kiss cookies, plus 6 to bring home. Bonus: Your sweetheart will also get to create a love bug cupcake to enjoy during class.

Sur la Table
Stocking all the best kitchen essentials, Sur La Table in Kirkland also provides a variety of cooking classes throughout the year (generally aimed at mom and dad), but when Cupid comes calling they offer family-friendly classes. Sign up early (like now!) for a Valentine’s Day Treats Class. You and your special valentine will create valentine kiss cookies, pink chocolate-dipped krispy pops and heart-shaped chocolate cupcakes as well as gain special insider tips and tricks you can use the whole year through.

The Sweet Details: Classes takes place on Feb. 14 from 10 a.m.-noon and 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Kirkland location. Cost is $39/person and kids must be 5 & older. Click on the Kirkland class calendar to register online.

Displayable Valentines

Michaels
Arts and crafts superstore Michaels is just the place if you prefer displayable vs. editable treats this holiday. Pop on by any Michaels store for Family Crafternoon, where you can decorate a V-Day mailbox to hold special notes from pals ($10 per box, supplies included). Or join the Kids Club event and create a yarn string art heart. Good for the Littles (ages 3 & older) as it’s only 30-minutes.

The Sweet Details: String Art Class takes place on Feb. 7  from 10 a.m.-noon and costs $2/student. Mailbox Class takes place on Feb. 7 from 1 p.m.-4 p.m and costs $10/student. Mailbox Class is best suited for older kids, but all ages are welcome to attend.

The Creativity Place
Located in Bothell, The Creativity Place (aka Janet DeGrave’s garage) provides the space and materials for anyone to come on in and enjoy getting crafty. It’s free to play (donations welcome) and this Valentine’s Day she’ll be stocked to the gills with hearts, pink and red paper, glue, stickers, gems – you name it – to decorate whatever your little heart desires. (Psst… We hear there will also be chocolate!).

The Sweet Details. This drop-in class takes place on Feb. 14 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome (and greatly appreciated).
