If your little one has been begging (and barking) for a pet, it might be time to consider welcoming a new furry friend into your family. Pets can not only teach your kiddo responsibility, they can also help build family bonds. With so many furry friends who need a home, consider the motto, “Adopt, Don’t Shop” as you begin the search for your family’s new best friend. Here are eight San Diego pet adoption centers filled with pets waiting for a family to call their own.

Helen Woodward Animal Center

Endorsed by animal loving celebrity actresses Diane Keaton and Kristen Bell, you are sure to find a purrfect companion at this 12-acre facility located in Rancho Santa Fe. For more than 40 years, the Helen Woodward Animal Center has been committed to the philosophy of “people helping animals and animals helping people.” You can take a look at all the adoptable dogs and cats, including their featured Pet of the Week. If you see an animal that sparks your interest, you can print an adoption application online, complete and bring it with you when you go meet your potential pet at the adoption center. In addition to pet adoptions, “Club Pet” at Helen Woodward Animal Center offers grooming, training, veterinary services, pet photography, doggie daycare and pet boarding. Tours of Club Pet are offered daily from 12 - 3 p.m.
