The new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hints at an MCU connection
Good news, Mile Morales fans, official trailer #2 for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has arrived and it includes a whole lot of hints about what’s in store for Miles and all the other Spider-people of the multiverse. And, in a huge teaser, Spider-Man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), throws some shade at Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange. Remember, MCU’s version of Earth was mentioned in 2022’s Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, so should we expect some crossover action soon?
The nearly three-minute trailer gives us some of the fullest glimpses into Miles’ world—and shows him reuniting with Gwen Stacy on a trip through the multiverse where the two encounter a whole web of new spider-people, also doing their best to protect the world from evil. But the spider-people are having a hard time agreeing about how to handle The Spot, a mysterious threat to the multiverse, and it will be up to Miles to figure out a path forward that protects the world.
The trailer is packed with brief glimpses of the action we can expect to see, but we also see the stress of Miles’ real life stacking up. He’s late to a party and argues with his mom. He’s getting an A in AP science, but a B+ (gulp) in Spanish. He faces the tough decision as to whether or not he can save both the people closest to him and the rest of the world. It’s clear that Miles will be tested in ways he’s never imagined, and we are here for it.
Returning characters include Miles, Rio, and Spider-Gwen, plus Peter B. Parker and Jefferson Davis. New characters include Jessica Drew (voiced by Issa Rae), Spider-Man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), and Spider-Punk (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya). Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the first installment in a two-part sequel to 2018’s Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse. It’s set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
