Target stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, forever
Target stores will be closed on Thanksgiving this year and they will also be permanently closed for the holiday in the future. The CEO of the massively popular retailer announced the news last season, noting it will be the “new standard” moving forward.
The Big Red Bullseye will instead open at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, but the retailer is also offering plenty of early deals and sales. Instead of cutting Thanksgiving Day short to fight the crowds, you can start shopping for Black Friday Week deals now—and take advantage of free Drive Up and Order Pickup. No memberships required, either.
“What started as a temporary measure driven by the pandemic is now our new standard—one that recognizes our ability to deliver on our guests’ holiday wishes both within and well beyond store hours,” Target CEO Brian Cornell said in a statement. The store closed for the holiday in 2020, due to the pandemic. It stuck, as the retail giant decided to make the move permanent.
Many popular stores will be shuttered for Thanksgiving, but Target’s announcement leaves no doubt on holiday hours in the future. The move will give employees more time to spend with their families and remove any temptation to make a quick Target run on turkey day. Score one for the home team!
