Saving the World, One Cape at a Time

Trending Now

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Just kidding, it’s your kiddo. With the superhero craze not subsiding anytime soon, it’s time to put your child’s love of everything superhero to good use. Support TinySuperheroes, a company that creates capes for little ones who are overcoming sickness and disability.

Some Background:
Crafty Seattle mom Robyn Rosenberger wanted to give her nephew a unique gift for his second birthday last year, so she got creative and made him a personalized superhero cape. She loved making the cape (and watching the little guy play with it) so much that soon enough, her son, his friends, and even the family dog all had capes of their own.

But her crafting didn’t stop there. While following the story of Brenna, a little girl born with a severe skin disorder, Robyn decided she needed a cape, a perfect reminder to Brenna and her whole family of how strong and determined she was. That’s how Robyn’s company, TinySuperheroes, was born—and now, less than a year later, over 3,000 kids in all 50 states and 15 countries have received empowering capes of their own.

How it works:
Friends and family members can nominate kids who are overcoming illness or disability to receive a donated TinySuperhero cape. Their names are then placed on a waiting list to receive a cape from a generous supporter. So even if you don’t personally know anyone who’s sick, you can contribute a $30 donation and make a deserving kiddo’s day. Here’s another cool extra: you’ll get to learn a little bit about your TinySuperhero after you donate—and you can even continue to follow them through their blog or Facebook page.

If your kids want to get in on the cape fun too, there’s also the popular “buy a cape, give a cape” option, where your kiddo will get a cape when you purchase one for a TinySuperhero. It’s bound to be a teaching moment for your little caped crusader, and a great moment to get kids interested in helping others through charity and volunteering.

Aside from scoring an awesome playtime accessory, supporting TinySuperheroes is the perfect way to teach your little one about the hardships that others their age face, not to mention their awe-inspiring determination and strength—and we’re pretty sure any superhero-in-training will appreciate that.
