The Most Popular Baby Names of 2018

If you welcomed a new addition to your family this year, chances are you spent many hours debating and deciding on the perfect name for your new baby. Now that the year is coming to a close the most popular names of 2018 have been revealed so you can find out where your little one’s name ranks on the list.

BabyCenter just released its annual list of the top baby names of the year and you can be sure you’ll be seeing more than a couple kids in class with these names by the time your baby reaches Kindergarten in five years. Topping the list, which is divided into boys and girls’ names, are Jackson and Sophia. Neither name even cracked the top 20 names that were predicted by Babygaga to take the lead in 2018, which included Emma and Finn. However, the frontrunners should come as no surprise considering that Sophia has taken the top spot for nine years straight and Jackson has been number one for six years.

BabyCenter also analyzed the data collected on baby names to look for trends that have made an impact on selections this past year. Names on the rise in 2018 were influenced by reality stars, like the Kardashian/Jenner clan (Stormi was up 63 percent) and Fixer Upper’s Gaines family (Magnolia was up 21 percent) who welcomed their own new baby this year. Another big influencer was Fortnite, yes the video game, with character names like Ramirez and Bunny gaining ground. Mindfulness and even food also had an impact with names like Peace, Harmony, Kiwi and Clementine on the rise.
