LB Kussik offers up her best-of-the-best tips for winter fun with kids. “Our answer to wet, gray, cold Seattle winter weekends is to get out into the mountains," she says. "Fortunately, in Seattle in the wintertime, when it is raining in the city, it is often snowing in the mountains, and that’s the best time to get out! Our kids are also soccer players, so winter weekends usually means both kids will have a soccer game somewhere. That also gets us out of the house, rain or shine. The ride home from a wet soccer game usually includes a drive through coffee stand for hot chocolate and lattes.”
For LB and her kids skiing is a family affair. "On our way home from our local mountain we always stop for either root beer floats or a savory pie for dinner,” she divulges. And what about emergency winter gear? You guessed it ... ski supplies! But if the weekend happens to find LB and her family in the city, winter clothes consist of lined rubber boots and a good Gortex rain jacket.
If she’s hitting up her go-to spot to beat the winter blues you’ll find her at Crystal Mountain and, until about two years ago, winter adventures would take the form of a week-long family ski trip somewhere like Utah or British Columbia.
