It’s been over a year since it was announced that Wednesday Addams was coming to Netflix. The live-action series, aptly titled Wednesday, follows the angsty teen in a different type of coming-of-age tale is directed by Tim Burton and has a newly announced actress joining the ranks: Christina Ricci.

Famous for her OG portrayal of the dark and mysterious character, Ricci will not actually be reprising her role. Instead, her character will come alongside the newest Wednesday Addams rendition, Jenna Ortega. In fact, the eight-episode series will take a completely new plot all together.

Instead of the whole Addams fam, the Netflix series will focus on Wednesday’s life at Nevermore Academy. Unlike the typical teen drama, Wednesday includes (obviously) a supernatural twist.

As Wednesday attempts to master her budding psychic powers, the iconic character will, according to Netflix, “thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago—all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.”

Wednesday marks the television series directorial debut of Burton. Famed director Burton, has also directed a few episodes of television shows such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The acclaimed filmmaker also executive produced an animated TV version of Beetlejuice. The creatives behind the new Netflix series also include Andrew Mittman for 1.21 (The Addams Family, Alphas), Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert (Code Black, Up All Night), Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania (RESPECT, Addams Family 2), and Gail Berman (The Addams Family, Alphas).

Other actors joining the series include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams and Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems. At one point, Thora Birch was also associated with the series but has since left the project due to personal reasons.

Netflix has not revealed the premiere date of Wednesday, instead sharing that it’s “coming soon to the United States.”
