Our moms marked our first birthdays with supermarket sheet cakes loaded with frosting that made us bounce for days. Now you can bump it up a notch — but keep the sweet buzz — with smash cakes. These mini cakes are meant for tots to smash with their bare hands, caveman style, and eat until they’re good and messy. Click through our slideshow and get inspired.

Curious George Banana Cake
The classic tale of Curious George makes for a great party theme. Cara from One Swell Studio created a banana-shaped smash cake for her son Hudson's first birthday. Cara tells us that she baked a round double-layer cake and cut it into a crescent shaped. After, she frosted it using her mom's homemade buttercream recipe, piped thin lines for the peel and topped it with a Tootsie Roll for the stem. Check out the full scoop at We Heart Parties.
