These one-of-a-kind crochet costumes definitely keep the kids warm during trick-or-treating

Any parent knows the excitement that Halloween brings for kids when it comes to picking out costumes. But for Stephanie Pokorny, it’s a DIY costume all the way.

A crochet expert and mom, Pokorny tells Tinybeans that Halloween holds an annual occasion. “This has become our family tradition and so each year, my boys pick what they want to be and I crochet it!” she says.

When Pokorny says she crochets it, she’s not kidding. The crafter doesn’t just whip up a cute scarf or hat for her kids––she goes all out with a head-to-toe costume that must take her hours upon hours to create. The result? Totally one-of-a-kind cozy, crochet costumes (that you can see in this Facebook post).

Most knitters and crocheters admit they follow a pattern to craft their scarves, blankets and hats. But for these gorgeous costumes, that’s not the case.

“The elaborate costumes are freehanded and no pattern and not for sale, just labors of love for my babies ♡” says Pokorny.

Over the years, the amazing crafter has created E.T., the Smurfs, Friday Kahlo, Slimer from Ghostbusters, Harry Potter, Skeletor, a banana, a gnome, Slenderman, and more. (You can see the collection on Facebook.)

While we definitely oogle at the finished product, we are most mesmerized by the fact that Pokorny makes her kids Halloween costumes without a pattern. Not only that, she keeps the costumes as part of her own collection, never selling them.

If you want to try your own hand at crocheting, you’re in luck. You can purchase patterns (not the actual finished product) over at Ravelry and Pokorny’s Etsy shop, Crochetverse. While you won’t find any options for the costumes she’s made her kids, you’ll find plenty of other Halloween-worthy hats, masks, and wig patterns.
