There’s something special about a new dad who goes looking for wisdom from parents who’ve been in the trenches longer. That’s exactly what Zac Perez, aka @nonpracticinggenius, has been doing—and in the process, the creator known for his honest take on parenting landed on a piece of advice that’s struck a chord with moms everywhere. One that has nothing to do with the baby.
Take photos of mum.
It sounds simple. But as he points out, mom is usually the one behind the camera. She’s feeding, nursing, sleep-deprived, and on top of it all, also somehow the family photographer? Her phone is full of snapshots of dad and baby, visitors, and nap-trapped selfies. And yet she’s rarely in the frame herself.
His message to dads? “It’s on us.”

The response from moms in his comments said it all. “Oh so beautiful!! I wish my husband had heard this. I am pretty much non-existent in photos with our boys,” one explained. Another added: “That is why I always offer to take photos of families when they are out, as you know the parent taking it probably is rarely in pictures.” Plus, a new dad of a 10-day-old girl vowed to “really take this advice to heart.”
What makes his take so moving is where the story goes. As a family that chose to keep their baby off social media, he’d been quietly collecting those moments of his partner, but wasn’t sure what to do with them. That’s where Tinybeans came in. Those photos found a home beyond his camera roll, and for their first Mother’s Day, he turned them into a photo book.
“Now there’s proof that she was always there, in frame.”

That’s exactly the kind of gift that lasts, whether it’s for Mother’s Day or beyond. Photo books are available in dozens of designs to celebrate major milestones or the beauty of everyday life and made for exactly this kind of story: the one where mom is finally, beautifully, in the picture.
