You don’t have to go big to keep your little snow bunnies entertained this winter. In fact, these tiny towns are proving just how much adventure one family can fit into a small space, with everything from sleigh rides and sledding to skijoring and sightseeing, and even a few that don’t include snowy goodness (hello, beaches and sunshine). Flip through to find your next pint-sized winter destination!

Galena, Illinois (Appx. Population 3,255)

If you’ve ever wanted to try skijoring, you can do it in Galena! Not sure what it is? That’s okay, there’s still lots to do (psst … it’s being pulled by a horse, dog or vehicle on skis). This familiar Midwest community does winter the same way it does all the seasons—full blast. Stop in for the Night of the Luminaria in Dec, when the whole town in decked out with over 5,000 candle-lit luminaries. Plan a sleigh ride while you’re there too, complete with hot cocoa and a bonfire to thaw out after an hour-long ride in the brisk winter air. Don’t forget to sled on the community golf course at the famous 18th hole while you’re there.
