Chicago City Day School is a private JK-through-8 school that combines rigorous education and a culture of kindness. Founded in 1981, City Day delivers an academic program that draws on the best of traditional education thought and practice while also embracing innovation. Our students compose poems, build rockets, measure the quality of the Chicago River, and create sculptures — all while honing the bedrock reading, writing, and math skills that will help them translate a complex world.
As an independent school, City Day charts its own course. The School has developed an adaptive curriculum that grows in complexity with the students and responds to their individual needs. City Day’s expert teachers differentiate their instruction, and this, combined with class sizes that we keep small, ensures that each student is challenged and supported. Our beatuiful 2-acre campus in Lakeview East provides students with varied facilities and learning spaces, from our state-of-the-art tech center to our tranquil outdoor koi pond. We also give students opportunities to learn away from campus, via regular field trips in the city, our STEM expedition to Space Camp, and our immersive trips to Europe, among others.
