In fact, these San Diego kids party venues (some of which just so happen to be world-class museums!) are destined to make the event a fantastic celebration for young revelers: There’s a theme for every interest—from rocket ships and pirate ships to trampolines and giant hammocks. Read on for birthday ideas in San Diego sure to make your kid’s big day the absolute best!
Spend your birthday boy or girl's special day at the coolest museum for kids downtown. Guests of your party get museum entry and two hours in the special party room. A dedicated party concierge will help parents throughout the party, and special activities can be added on for an additional fee. Your kiddo's crew will love all of the museum's exhibits––especially hanging out in their super cool art installation: Whammock!—a giant rainbow hammock they can swing and climb through. Be sure to book this popular spot two weeks in advance!
Let your little one rock and roll their way through a birthday celebration at the '50s style Corvette Diner. Birthday guests are treated to serenades from the beehived servers. Themed party packages include a party space, choices from a pre-set menu, and either time in the very popular arcade, crafts, or a dance-off! Many add-ons are available, including a popcorn cart, cupcake buffet, and balloon artist.
Calling all young explorers! The San Diego Children's Discovery Museum is the perfect party spot for little tykes, and it's easy to plan for the big day. They offer themed parties like Dinosaur Discovery, Future Farmers, or Little Chemists. You also get a party assistant and your own parking spot on that special day. Also good to note, the museum offers mobile birthday parties, which include some of their traveling exhibits and workshops.
Party-goers get to have their cake and eat it too at CeramiCafe. The best part about this venue is that you don't have to be an artist, yet you get to paint a great piece of pottery. The popular cupcake party includes a party host and cupcakes and lemonade for all guests. But, most importantly, the birthday artist enjoys creative time with friends.
Take your little ones' birthday celebration to the next level by jumping the day away! Rockin' Jump is an indoor trampoline park filled with foam pits, dodgeball courts, and a ninja challenge course to keep your tykes moving and grooving. Party packages include a private party room where guests can relax and take a break from the high-flying fun before chowing down on pizza and refreshments.
Shoot for the moon at this birthday spot that budding astronauts will love. Each party blasts off with a super scientific activity like Balsa Gliders, Alka-Seltzer rockets, or foam Rovers. Then, guests get a personalized museum tour with lots of good facts about the airplanes and rockets. You supply the food and they will take care of the rest! However, kids will leave with a goody bag perfect for the whole flight crew.
A bounce-it-out party that's also private, clean, and safe sounds great to us! First, there are plenty of party themes to choose from including a glow theme, pirate quest, and even superhero training. Kids bounce 'til their heart's content then head into a private party room for snacks, pizza, drinks, balloons, and party bags. Also, the birthday boy or girl gets to sit on a giant throne to unwrap presents. The Pump It Up crew sets up, cleans up, and packs the presents up, too.
Hands down, this is the best place to have an animal birthday paw-ty because the nonprofit expertly pairs education with the festivities. Further, they include themed party decorations, set-up, hosting and clean up. Plus, you'll get an animal encounter, face painting, and private backroom tour. We love the Bow-Wow Party for little ones and the Jammin' Jungle theme for bigger kids who crave a reptile encounter.
Capture the imagination at this birthday hot spot. With creative dress-up from princess to fire person and great attention to detail, party planning is easy and fun. So, bring your ideas and let them get to it. Even more, kids love to slide down the castle, climb the pirate ship and ride the bright red fire truck. Plus, at party time, bubbles and a giant parachute keep the kiddos entertained.
This oasis hosts a blooming marvelous birthday fete for the littles. Set-up in a private picnic spot and explore the Seeds of Wonder garden. Budding green thumbs can pot plants, easel paint, create bubbles and paint rocks. Plus, there's also a train mountain, dino dig, and an epic treehouse to play in. Here you'll find that nature is nurture.

Today my six-year-old daughter screamed the whole way home because I would not buy her a pottery wheel. Today I lost my patience. I will lose my patience again tomorrow.
I sometimes clean up her messes, because I can’t deal with the potential meltdown or maintain the calm presence required to walk her through how to clean it on her own.
I let her watch kids’ shows with obnoxious characters who whine a lot and lack depth.
I tune her out after hours of nonstop talking. Lord knows what I have given her permission to do when answering with a vague, “Yeah, sure.”
Yesterday she informed me that she hates quesadillas, one of the five or so foods she has always willingly consumed. Eat chicken nuggets then. Whatever.
I catch myself whining at her in the same voice that enrages me when it comes from her mouth. I am failing by example.
I’ve read the articles; I know the current “rules” of being a great mother. I think most of those carefully curated “shoulds” were written by liars and people who have never been around children. At best, they are hopeful ideals.
I gave in to the tantrum because my brain was so loud, and it was the only way to filter out some of the noise.
I am not teaching her enough about empathy and equity and racism and compassion and feminism and and and…
I said it was time to go! Get your shoes on right now!
Kids need rules and structure and patience. Those things do not play well together. Probably because their mothers failed them.
I played on my phone. I played on my phone because I needed to escape, and if you just leave your kid at the park, people call CPS.
In a minute, I’m busy right now.
I’m busy not volunteering at school. Not reading enough books to her. Not not not.
Inside my head, there is a version of me sitting with my head between my knees and my hands over my ears. Inside my head, there’s a version of my kids tapping me on the shoulder, repeating, “Mommy, watch this. Mom. Mommy. Mom.” Because of course.
But I do know this. At the end of the day, she asks to cuddle. She shares her dinnertime candy with me because she “likes to do nice things for people.” She talks about the fun things I actually mustered up the energy to do, not as a way of saying how much better I could be, but as a way of saying how much “enough” I am. She sometimes mimics my worst but also mimics my best.
So maybe there is hope. Maybe it’s not so bad. Maybe there is always tomorrow.
Dear Mom Who Is Totally Screwing Up, I wish this could be one of those uplifting messages about how you’re really not. But maybe you are. How the hell would I know? All I have to offer you is solidarity and a glass of wine.

If you just can’t wait for spring break, these off-the-beaten-path destinations close to Atlanta will satisfy your craving to get off your beaten path and explore—without too much of a time or money commitment. Buckle up for an adventure at a local Stonehenge, a little White House, or a general hospital for Cabbage Patch Dolls, and more. Who knew Georgia was so weird, or wonderful?
Hunt for Bigfoot Evidence
Expedition Bigfoot in Blue Ridge is dedicated to providing evidence for the existence of Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch). Either from personal experience and encounters to witness testimony and evidence, this mountain museum leaves the question of Bigfoot's existence up to you. Whether you’re a skeptic, believer or “knower,” all are welcome.
Charlemagne’s Kingdom, an Alpine Model Railroad Museum in the Georgia Mountains, features HO Scale German Model Railroads in a 50-foot exhitbit that depicts the various terrain and architecture of Germany. While you're in Helen, don't miss out on other fun Bavarian-inspired activities to round out your visit.
Giant slabs of stone with different languages written on them standing upright in the middle of the countryside? Stonehenge, right? Nope! Elberton. A mysterious person under the name of R.C. Christian hired Elberton Granite Finishing Company to build the structure, which has 10 guidelines or rules in 8 different languages. You'll find these guidelines in English, Spanish, Swahili, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian. To the left of the stone there is a tablet that states the astronomical features of the tablet and an apparent time capsule buried 6 feet below the monument. Also, on the tablet, it says “Let these be guidelines to the age of reason” and around it has 4 different ancient writing languages including Babylonian, Greek, Sanskrit, and Egyptian. So go. Check it out. You'll leave scratching your head but it's certainly a fun mystery to experience.

Old Car City is “the largest open-air classic car museum in the world” which started as a car dealership in 1931 and is now a post-apocalyptic forest of rusting vehicles. While it doesn't sound classically beautiful, the mixture of rust, reforestation, and occasional surprises of vibrant vinyl or car paint combines to make an altogether unusually pretty (and cool) environment to explore. You can also find funky signs and a large styrofoam cup art gallery. Definitely head here if you're in the mood for a little bit of quirk, but expect to pay a bundle. Guests can be charged up to $30 to enter, depending on your age and whether you want to take a photo while there.

In Atlanta, there is a house that is exactly identical to the White House in Washington D.C. Built buy Fred Milani, this 3/4-scale model of the White House was his tribute to democracy and the United States, his adopted home after fleeing from Iran in 1979. With a replica of the Oval Office, a movie theater, a replica of Lincoln's bedroom, and a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, this real-estate novelty was foreclosed upon in 2011 but still stands in Druid Hills.
Head to North Georgia to see the hospital where all Cabbage Patch Dolls get their starts. This volunteer-build roadside attraction offers 50 structures made out of tiny stones, shells, and fragments of pottery for visitors to marvel at behind the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church. Let’s not undervalue the importance of taking care of ourselves.
If you are a mom who does #allthethings and you are having trouble remembering the last time you did something for you, then it might be time to take a few minutes for you.
Because you can’t give what you don’t have. In other words, in order to take care of others, you must take care of yourself FIRST.
Self-care looks different for everyone. And, I like to divide all self-care into three categories: Mind, Body and Soul
So, here are some simple, inexpensive ways for you to get back to taking care of yourself and making yourself a priority again.
Self-Care for the Mind
1. Read a few pages in a personal development book.
2. Spend some time journaling.
3. Write down three affirmations.
4. Create a vision board.
5. List ten gratitude statements.
6. Watch an inspirational video.
7. Take a few minutes to read part of a fiction story.
8. Learn how to do something new.

With 2020 firmly behind and the 2021 summer around the corner, our hopes are on the rise for the resumption of travel this year. While grateful for being relatively COVID-safe in Singapore’s golden cage, the smallness of our island has us pining for the outside.
2021 and there are 227 inhabited Greek islands. Where should we even get started?
As they say in Greece, hope dies last. Under lockdown, I’ve combed through island after island, selecting our visions of paradise for the next three summers. By now, I’ve read every major travel magazine article, little known blog post, and forum review on the destinations of interest. Each island has a tab in my spreadsheet and a file on Instagram collecting information and inspiration as I go.
Finally, I have the luxury of time to plan a vacation. A true rarity for moms. And finally, I’ve found exactly what we’ve been looking for: stylish and reasonably priced vacation villa gems located directly on child-friendly beaches in mid-size Cycladic seaside villages. Day trip options for semi-private cruises to neighboring islands with out-of-this-world beachscapes. Where to send the kids for a pottery workshop while in Sifnos…Any trip from here will never be so well planned. And as parents with the load of baggage we carry, some volatile with surprises, invaluable is a seamlessly organized holiday.
The simulation of travel in the planning process soon became therapeutic escapism. From home, I visualized us on that beach house patio with a cool glass of Assyrtiko in hand. Slowly sipping, we watch the kids frolick in fine white sand as the sky changes color. Later, we take an evening to wander through cobblestone paths of whitewashed villages, alive with the soul of Greece. I deviate to shop online for kaftans. I think we will dine at a Greek restaurant tonight.
Sure, I may have to cancel everything a month before June but herein lies a precious exercise in non-attachment and letting go: There is meaning in learning to defer to forces beyond our control. So much of our days as parents never go as planned anyways. And if the process of pursuing an end result designed to bring happiness, instead dominates with anger and frustration, what then is the point of the whole endeavor?
Savor the planning, inhabit the surprises, heal if you must, and journey on. Enjoy the entirety of your travels, and consider 2021 an opportunity for the most well researched you, ever. Whether in a summer sojourn, or the journey of life.
