Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been on a different path to parenthood than Prince William and Duchess Kate. While it was heavily speculated that the royal baby would have a home birth, things didn’t exactly go that way.

The birth certificate for the new young royal was just filed publicly and the details reveal that Archie was born at the private Portland hospital in Westminster  London and not in the couple’s private home at Frogmore Cottage as many had anticipated. This birth was not the only famous one at the hospital. Sarah, Duchess of York gave birth to Pricesses Beatrice and Eugenie there and it was also the hospital where Victoria Beckham gave birth.

The details of the birth certificate also listed Meghan’s full legal name and title, which is listed as Rachel Meghan Markle Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex. The birth of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-WIndsor on May 6 places him seventh in line for the British throne.

Prince Louis Celebrates His First Birthday with an Adorable Photo Shoot

Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom may have been Mar. 22, but new mama Meghan Markle still wished mothers all over the world a joyous day in a sweet Instagram post this weekend.

Even though the world got a glimpse of Archie Harrison Mountbattan-Windsor last week during a much-anticipated press appearance, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a new type of pic this time. The proud parents posted a sweet photo of the baby’s feet cradled in his loving mother’s hand.

Along with the pic, the pair posted well wishes for the holiday and a quote from the poem “lands” by Nayyirah Waheed.

While Prince Harry didn’t directly reference his own mother, the forget-me-nots seen in the photo’s background are a possible reference to Princess Diana. The delicate flowers, which were also in Markle’s bridal bouquet, were Diana’s favorite.

Baby Sussex Makes His Royal Debut with Proud Parents Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle Isn’t the Only New Mama, Amy Schumer Just Gave Birth & Announced Her Baby’s Name, Too!

Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are parents! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their first child, a baby boy on May 6, 2019. The royal baby was born at 5:56 a.m., weighing 7lbs. 3oz.

The Duke spoke to the media to confirm the arrival of his first child, saying:

“I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy earlier this morning, a very healthy boy. Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we’re both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there. It’s been amazing, so I just wanted to share this with everybody.”

You’ll already notice the new royal is quite different from his cousins: no trademark birth at the Lindo Wing and no subsequent photo opp as the new parents head home. The world has been watching all along, but none more so then when the Royals officially announced Meghan had gone into labor on May 6.

It felt like only moments until we heard the announcement: it’s a boy!

Early Wednesday, right after presenting the new royal to the public, the proud parents also released his name: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. In a stunning photo, the moment the Queen met her eighth grandchild was caught on film. The black and white image shows the new parents, Markle’s mother, Doria, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen in all smiles.

The Duchess was quite adamant about bringing her son into the world differently, announcing that the couple wanted to keep the birth private. New residents of Windsor, the family plans to make Frogmore Cottage their family home for the foreseeable future.

We’ve been waiting with bated breath since the third week in April when The Duchess’ mother, Doria Ragland arrived in Britain to be there for the birth. Countless estimates have been made as to when the newest Royal would make his/her entrance, but we have to wait no more.

Cheers to the happy new parents!

What Baby Name Will Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Pick?

Is This an Indication That the Royal Baby Is Almost Here?

With the royal baby making a grand debut in mere weeks, the soon-to-be parents recently released a statement on Meghan Markle’s birth plan. But if you’re expecting a detailed description, think again.

So what do we know? Unlike Kate Middleton, Markle won’t stop for a photo op on the hospital’s steps after delivery. Instead, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to take their first official parenting pics at home on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

When it comes to the royal delivery, Markle may not follow in Middleton’s footsteps either. Even though the Duchess of Sussex hasn’t released specific details, there’s plenty of speculation that she’ll give birth at home in Frogmore Cottage. But in the event of a hospital delivery, it doesn’t look like Markle will labor in the upscale private Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital where her SIL gave birth. The hospital, which is 25 miles away from Markle’s home, isn’t the nearest (or most practical) option.

Even though the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are departing from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s birth and post-birth pans, it’s likely the palace will still announce when Markle goes into labor. But instead of looking for the announcement on Kensington Royal’s Instagram feed, you’ll find it on the couples’s new IG account @sussexroyal.

Parents of preschoolers are a breed unto ourselves. While those with older children can blend into the rest of the world’s adult population with little to set them apart, there’s no such camouflage for those of us toting toddlers (and sippy cups, and snacks, and crayons and 3 different types of derriere lotion). Here’s what gives us away:

Here at Red Tricycle NY, we’re always excited to spread the word about new kid-friendly cafés and restaurants. That’s why we were especially jazzed when we heard of a new cozy outpost from the brains behind Ditmas Park area parent favorite (and Red Tricycle Totally Awesome Award winner) Lark. Just steps from Prospect Park, ELK is serving up food and drink fireside and is home to an outdoor space just waiting for the spring thaw.

Where & What

Located in Brooklyn neighborhood Windsor Terrace on Prospect Park Southwest (in the former home of bike shop/café Juice Pedelar), ELK offers a small but tasty menu of sandwiches and snacks that caters to the palates of both kids and adults. Owner Kari Browne has recruited beloved local gourmet food shop Brancaccio’s to create a sandwich selection exclusive to ELK (ham and fontina, smoked salmon with onion and capers, and roasted eggplant among them), while other Brooklyn faves supply sweets and baked goods.

Sweets & Sips

You’ll find pies from Gowanus’ Four & Twenty Blackbirds; pastry from Colson Patisserie in Park Slope; Ovenly of Greenpoint’s gluten-free baked goods and Megpie’s artisan tarts. Wash it all down with Stumptown coffee, a hot chocolate or one of the café’s smoothies. (Plans to offer beer and wine are in the works, too.)

For the Kids

Like its cousin Lark, ELK hosts kid-friendly happenings. Currently, Lucy Kalantari hosts a ukulele singalong on Thursdays ($5 suggested donation), but space inside the café is limited, so programming for younger patrons won’t kick into high gear until warm weather returns. Come April, a large outdoor space will be outfitted with umbrella tables and more, and ELK’s seating area will quadruple in size.

In addition to providing some outside crawling space for little ones, Browne plans to convert the property’s former bike shed (located at the far end of the lot) into a playhouse. Outdoor activities for kids ages two and up will range from story times to singalongs to kiddie science classes.

When we dropped by on a snowy weekend day, a cup of hot chocolate by the fire did the trick before we headed back out into the cold. Come spring and summer, Browne hopes to fuel park-bound visitors with food and drink, whether they choose to stay and relax a bit or grab and go.
