While the stunning views of the Manhattan skyline will leave you breathless, the pier’s fitness-focused facilities will get you and the kids moving and your hearts pumping. Within the pier’s five acres, you’ll find five full basketball courts, 16 swings, six handball courts, an aerobic fitness playground, a massive artificial grass field, Bocce ball and shuffleboard courts, and a soon-to-open roller rink. Here are some of Pier 2’s highlights, plus a look at the Pier 4 beach. Field Day Sometimes the word “fake” gets such a bad rap -- that is, until you see and feel the artificial turf on Pier 2’s half-acre playing field. The rich green “grass” looks like a picture-perfect manicured lawn and provides a soft landing for when your little athletes tumble, stumble and tackle. Insider Tip: Street parking is scarce, so take public transportation. Bathrooms are clean and include changing tables, but expect long lines. Coin lockers are also available. Go: Pier 2 Brooklyn Bridge Park Furman St. between Clark St. & Pineapple St. Hours: Daily, 6 a.m.-11 p.m. with lights on for evening play.
