It’s time to celebrate the festival of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Children will learn all about this Jewish holiday through stories and the sharing of an apple and honey snack.

Grandparents can be a huge part of any child’s life and that’s why Pretend City wants to give them their own day of celebration! This hilarious, 90-minute interactive show aboard the state’s Official Tall Ship Californian puts you right in the middle of the pirate action. After you’re sworn in as part of the crew you will be trained how to navigate, sword fight, bail water from a sinking ship, escape from the Kings Jail, swab the deck and other pirate skills. But beware… there be mutiny afoot, a lost crew and cursed treasure! Choose from two shows. Check-in times are 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

She will be joining us at Pretend City to share one of her newest stories, Counting Sea Life, with Co-author Derek Taylor Kent. Derek will also be sharing his book, Simon and the Solar System.

Be a bookworm! It’s National Read a Book Day and Pretend City is excited to share the gift of reading with all their friends. Reading prepares kids for a lifetime of learning and sets them up for success! They’ll be sharing their favorite books/stories with friends and inspiring little ones to get excited about reading.

Note: There is a $20 parking fee at Timber! Outdoor Music Festival. The parking fee is valid for July 12-15. In/out privileges are allowed, however space is not guaranteed in the main parking lot upon return. Returning vehicles may be directed to the overflow parking lot. Parking can and should be purchased in advance and all parking pass sales are final. Events like Timber! help fund maintenance of King County’s 200 parks, 175 miles of trail, and 28,000 acres of open space.

L’Auberge Del Mar is rolling into summer with a new outdoor summer skating rink! Roller rink experiences include fast-paced upbeat pop music from the 80s through today, with every 30-minute skate session ending with everybody’s favorite, “The Hokey Pokey.” The daily roller rink program includes Open Skate and Adult Only Happy Hour Skate times with skate rentals available. Daytime Roller Rink guests receive $5 off their food purchases from ocean view Coastline restaurant in July. In support of San Diego Gay Pride, L’Auberge Del Mar is welcoming two Drag Queen Skate Shows on special dates: Fri., July 13, and Tues., July 27, from 5-8 p.m.

Miss Piggott’s (Not-So) Nice Cream Pop-up Parlor will celebrate National Ice Cream Month by serving macabre and nightmarish ice cream adorned with the most creepy, crawly and terrifying toppings imaginable. This pop-up ice cream parlor will be presented by The San Francisco Dungeon, the only fully-immersive attraction of its kind to celebrate the dark side of the city’s history. The ice cream will be free for those daring enough to taste Miss Piggott’s creations. Straight out of foodie nightmares, these “flavors” will include dirty ice cream topped with anything found crawling on the dungeon floor like insects, scorpions and worms.
