Bring your little New Yorkers to this weekly playdate to celebrate the city they live in. Each week includes time with historic toys, a special Little New-Yorkers hello song, story readings, and a related craft project.

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park celebrates travel and transportation in the era of real horsepower at Stagecoach Days. Each Saturday through August will focus on a different aspect of early San Diego history.

Games & Amusements – July 7
Try your hand at games & amusements of the 1800s – long before smart phones and tablets.

Soldiers & Citizens – July 14
San Diego’s military history stretches back to its settlement in 1769. See historic uniforms and weapons and hear soldiers’ stories.

Women of the West – July 28
Celebrate little-told stories of settlers who made the frontier a home. See the role women played in Old Town San Diego and experience our annual Quilt Walk.

Trades That Shaped the West – August 4
See our blacksmiths, printers, woodworkers, and more to help you decide what job you would have chosen in the 1800s.

Days of the Vaqueros – August 11
See vaqueros – the original cowboys – ride, rope, and talk of life on the ranchos.

TwainFest – August 18
Literature comes to life through games and activities in the park.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream follows the misadventures of four young lovers, a group of aspiring actors, and a team of mischievous fairies as they all enter the woods outside Athens on a summer night. The ensuing hilarity and chaos create an evening filled with love and laughter. Bring your family and friends, a blanket, and a picnic to enjoy professional theater at no charge in a beautiful park setting near you!

He performs as a rollicking 1-man band, bringing his guitar, banjo, harmonica, and suitcase drum kit. He’ll get everybody to sing along, dance along, play along, and have an all-Americana good time.

Hey batter, batter. Summer means baseball season and San Jose Giants Games aren’t only a less expensive alternative to those guys up north but you can do some scouting of your own and predict who may get called up to the big leagues next. Residents can often pick-up free tickets from local businesses. Check out the schedule for special events, from post-game fireworks shows to a chance for the kids to run the bases and more. First pitch ranges from as early as 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Head to Jack London Square for a day of bicycle shenanigans, an amphibious bike race, dare-devil stunts, art bikes, and live music on a pedal-powered stage. Enjoy pedal-powered food, a pedal-powered sound stage featuring live music, daredevil stunts, a kid’s bike rodeo, safety training, and the most amazing collection of bicycles to be seen from vintage and hand built bikes to high-end customs, sturdy commuters, and creative art bikes.

Chicago’s only classical music street festival, Thirsty Ears Festival, is returning for its third year and is adding a special screening with live score performance from the Sound of Silent Film Festival on Saturday at sundown. Families will enjoy activities throughout the 2-day fest, including spirited storytime sessions complete with improvised, live music by The Lucky Trikes and the traveling lab of discovery and creativity, the WTTW Big Ideas Van.

Paris Rosenthal, an inspiring young author and daughter of the late Amy Krouse Rosenthal, famous for her numerous children’s books and NYT Modern love piece You May Want to Marry My Husband, will be at Millennium Park for a reading of Dear Girl in celebration of Amy Krouse Rosenthal Day. Not only will you hear Dear Girl, a collaboration between Paris and her mom, you’ll enjoy a performance by the Wiggleworms, face painting, a book signing and giveaways.

Candytopia, the candy-coated experiential adventure that brings a dreamworld candy factory to life, is thrilled to announce a new location in San Francisco.
