Meet the Museum of Craft and Design at NOW Hunter’s Point for the 7th annual Circus Festival, hosted by MCD’s partners at the Bayview Opera House! Design and create a custom circus hat to set you apart from the crowd while enjoying the free performances by Circus Bella and the world-record setting “Longest Chain of Roller Skaters” attempt! Free circus show, free slide rides, circus games, arts activities, and face painting • Food from local vendors available for purchase at reasonable prices.

 

Enjoy classical music with a kick with the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra (SMYO), a dynamic organization that provides tuition-free music education to a diverse cross-section of youth in an effort to bring cultural understanding, cooperation, and peer mentorship to its participants. SMYO is a program of the Santa Monica Boys and Girls Clubs.

This year, SMYO’s Opus 5 Music Camp takes the Skirball amphitheater stage for their final performance, themed “Songs of the Land: Exploring the Many Voices of Our World through the Arts.” The camp hosts musicians from France, China, Russia, and the Pan African Youth Orchestra of Ghana to work with students from all over LA build community and learn musical styles from one another.

Celebrate the strength and beauty of LA’s cultural diversity with Roar! Tiger, a fun-filled puppet show about friendship by One Grain of Sand Puppet Theater.

In the show, a curious young Korean tiger travels the world and meets a jaguar from the Americas. But the two animals run into trouble because they can’t understand each other. How will they learn to overcome their differences and get along? This tabletop puppet show uses a mix of folk art–style puppets with live drumming. Performed in English, Korean, and Spanish.

Note: An ASL interpreter will be present at this performance.
