Robert De Niro, at 79 years old, just announced that he’s welcomed his 7th child

Congratulations are in order for Oscar-winning actor and almost-octogenarian Robert De Niro, who just made a public announcement that he’s expanded his already large brood and welcomed baby number seven.

De Niro sat down with ET Canada to discuss his upcoming movie, About My Father, and that’s when he dropped the bombshell news. Interviewer Brittnee Blair said, “I know you have six kids,” and De Niro quickly corrected her: “Seven, actually. I just had a baby.”

ET confirmed with De Niro’s reps that he did recently welcome another bundle of joy, but as of now, we don’t know anything else about the baby. De Niro hasn’t even confirmed who the mother is, though we can assume it’s his current girlfriend, Tiffany Chen. During a dinner with friends last month, De Niro was caught on film by paparazzi saying that Chen was expecting.

De Niro already shares 11-year-old Helen and 25-year-old Elliot with his ex-wife, Grace Hightower. He’s also a dad to 27-year-old twin sons Aaron and Julian, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, as well as 46-year-old Raphael and 51-year-old Drena, whom he shares with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott. That means that De Niro’s kids now span more than half a century—a pretty big accomplishment, if you ask us.

In his interview with ET, De Niro said he believes in “being loving with [his] kids,” but he’s still the parent who sometimes has “to be stern about stuff.”

“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” he explained. “And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”

Sounds like De Niro has this parenting thing down, and his new baby is lucky to have a dad with so much experience.
