The generation of reboots continues: It’s rumored that a sequel to the 1997 cult classic Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion just might be happening!

Both Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, who played the lovable main characters, have mentioned a potential reunion for a follow-up film. Sorvino recently appeared on an episode of TODAY with Hoda & Jenna and shared that “There’s nothing official to report, but I can unofficially hint that we’re closer than we’ve ever been to getting something to happen.”

That’s good enough for us!

If you need more than Sorvino’s vague sentiments, rest assured that Kudrow has also backed up the claims. She appeared on The Jess Cagle Show on Sirius XM and dropped her own hints. “Robin Schiff is thinking about it and coming up with something. Isn’t that thrilling? I know, that could be fun,” she said.

Schiff is the mastermind behind the cult film and wrote the characters way before the movie hit theaters. She envisioned the duo and added them to her play Ladies Room in 1987 and was shocked to see them so adored by viewers.

“They were loosely based, just visually, on these girls I used to see going into a club on Sunset Boulevard,” she told Vanity Fair. “You’d see these two friends, and they looked like they got dressed together and were wearing different versions of the same thing.” Eventually, the pair became stars in their own right when the film was made, despite it not doing extremely well at the box office.

As for now, we wait. The only information we have is what Sorvino and Kudrow have shared, which admittedly isn’t a lot. We can only hope to see the twosome reunited soon to know how the Valley girls have weathered the 2000s and beyond.
