Explore: Suisun Valley with Kids

If you’ve ever driven up to Fairfield for the tour at the Jelly Belly factory (and a bag of their complimentary beans handed out at the end of each tour), you’ve passed the turnoff to one of the Bay Area’s closest rich agricultural areas — Suisun Valley. As harvest time starts to get into swing, a trip up this way with your fam provides an opportunity for some hands-on fun on the farm, and this weekend’s Fun Family Farm Days takes it to the next level. There will be hay-rides, u-pick, live music, arts and crafts, plenty of tasty food, and even wine tastings for the grown-ups (this area’s taking off in the production of some quality cabs and chardonnays). It’s not all about the countryside, though. Suisun City has its own waterfront district, where you can walk along the delta harbor and check out the ships. Day Park, located on the water, is a great place for the kids to run, climb, and slide before doing some more driving. And in nearby Fairfield, the Blue Frog Grog Grill brewery has a special menu for “tadpoles,” along with a selection of crafted beers for the grown frogs to sample. Next time you’re headed up this way, keep in mind there’s more to see than just a candy factory!
