Sarah Michelle Gellar is offering up her Buffy haircut as a cautionary tale for anyone considering getting bangs
It’s almost like a rite of passage for women—you’re craving a change, so you head to the salon. You sit down in the chair. You’re temporarily emboldened by possibility. And you ask for bangs. We’ve all been there—and we’ve all regretted it. But now, a new generation may be saved from having the bangs experience themselves, and it’s all thanks to Sarah Michelle Gellar.
In case you don’t remember, Gellar was rocking some very serious bangs back in her Buffy era. They may have been the height of fashion at the time, but viewed through the lens of a more modern style in 2023, they’re, um, how do we put this politely?
How about we just let Gellar say it. The star posted a throwback photo of her ’90s look to her Instagram with the hilarious caption, “Every time my daughter asks for bangs, I show her this picture of me. When she keeps asking, I show her the second. #themoreyouknow.”
And now, that favor can be extended to all of our daughters. Any time they ask for bangs (or, God forbid, we consider getting the chop for ourselves), these images will serve as a reminder that it’s one of those styles we need to collectively leave in the past.
This isn’t the first time the actress has taken to social media to mock her signature look from way back when. In 2020, she shared a similar photo of her Buffy bangs with the caption, “How some of y’alls quarantine haircuts are looking.”
Next time you’re craving a change, maybe think about some layers instead. Let the mistakes of Gellar’s past guide you (and your kids) into a bang-free future.
