Psychologists Say It May Make You Happier Summer is finally here, and so is the Southern California sun. Instead of grabbing the sunscreen and towels, grab your sweatshirts and jeans and head out for a day of ice skating! The San Diego Ice Arena is a fun indoor alternative to escape the summer temperatures. Whether your child is a budding hockey player or a future figure skater, San Diego Ice Arena offers lessons for all experience levels at their skating school. They also offer private lessons focusing on overall skating abilities as well as specific skill training. The skating school has classes for tots (age 3-5), youth (age 6 and up) and adults, as well as hockey and other specialty classes (can you say “ice dancing?”). SDIA hosts birthday parties, hockey leagues, figure skating workshops, and a variety of public skating sessions. Come by on Saturdays and Sundays between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm for “Family Party Sessions” where the whole family can skate to the sounds of a live DJ and play games with the SDIA mascot “Ice-Qub.” SDIA also boasts an impressively stocked pro shop. Whether you are a recreational skater or a competitor, the pro shop has all kinds of gear for skaters at any level. They also do repairs, skate sharpening, and leather preserving. If you’re planning on going to a public skate session, be sure to check the site for session times, as they do overlap with hockey games and other special events! Admission is $10 for all skaters under 12 years of age, and that cost includes a pair of skates. Adult admission costs $12 with skates, or $10 if you bring your own!
