Hello Wisconsin.. again! That ’90s Show will be back for Season 2
It looks like the crew will be returning to Point Place for another summer. On Friday, Netflix announced that a second season of That ’90s Show is coming. After its release in January, the sequel to the iconic That ’70s Show made the Top 10 English TV shows list in over 35 countries, and so the streaming platform has ordered 16 new episodes.
“All of us at That ‘90s Show were beyond excited by the warm, enthusiastic response to our first season,” said co-creator Gregg Mettler. “We can’t wait to return to Point Place for another summer of laughs and surprises. Hello 1996!”
In the new hit comedy, Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp have returned as Red and Kitty Forman, and the show revolves around their granddaughter Leia (daughter of Eric and Donna from the original series), who spends the summer with them in Wisconsin. While the characters have changed in That ’90s Show, not much else around Point Place has. Kitty is still warm and kind, and she’s thrilled to have a house full of teenagers. And Red? Red is as grumpy as ever. The sequel also had special guest appearances by several original cast members, including Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, and Wilmer Valderrama.
What’ll happen in Season 2? So far, the word is that Leia is back for another summer and another chance to hang with her next-door neighbor Gwen and her tight-knit group of friends. Since nine months will have passed since the teens have seen each other, we’re guessing we’ll see some come-of-age plot lines and plenty of, ahem, basement time.
The trailer revealed plenty of Easter eggs for fans of the original series. It featured a new version of the classic “In the Street” theme song and showed Leia and her new friends having a familiar stoner circle on the iconic basement couch.
