In the new trailer for The Last Thing He Told Me, Jennifer Garner searches for answers about her husband’s disappearance

For anyone who’s read the bestselling novel The Last Thing He Told Me, the countdown to the premiere of the TV series based on the thriller has been on for quite some time. But Apple TV+, which is producing the new series, has finally dropped a full-length trailer, adding to the hype we’ve already seen building.

The trailer shows just how twisty and mysterious this show will be. We see Jennifer Garner (who stars as the protagonist Hannah) finding a bag filled with giant rolls of cash, getting an ominous warning from a shady strong man, and receiving the note from her missing husband that contains only two words: “PROTECT HER.”

Meanwhile, Hannah’s stepdaughter is experiencing some mysteries of her own—and there’s still the question of where the heck Owen is, especially when Hannah arrives at his office to look for him and learns the building has been mysteriously (and suddenly) closed down.

The seven-part Apple TV series is based on Laura Dave’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. It’s also executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and her production company, Hello Sunshine, so you know this is going to be good.

According to the official Apple TV synopsis, “The series follows Hannah (played by Garner), a woman who must forge a relationship with her 16-year-old stepdaughter Bailey (played by Angourie Rice) to find the truth about why her husband has mysteriously disappeared.”

And, as Garner’s character learns during the trailer when someone tells her, “your husband is not who you think he is,” the show will examine that central (and scary) question: How well can you really know someone—even if that someone is your spouse?

The Last Thing He Told Me premieres on Apple TV+ on April 14.
