When it comes to the top U.S. employers, grocery retailers take the cake. While well-known chains such as Costco and Wegmans rank in the Forbes (and market research form Statista) top 20, one of your all-time faves just took top honors!
So what company is the best to work for in the United States? Drumroll please…Trader Joe’s! You already love TJ’s fab frozen foods and Two-Buck Chuck. And now you can adore the store even more—especially if you work there.

Aside from the super-stylish Hawaiian shirts that retail floor employees get to wear, what makes TJ’s such an amazing place to work? To start with, in over 50 years of business Trader Joe’s has never had a mass layoff. President of stores, Jon Basalone, told Forbes, “We stay true to what we know works for Trader Joe’s and our crew members.” He went on to add, “You combine that with the pay, benefits and supportive, fun environment, and people tend to want to stick around.”
Great pay, a bounty of benefits and fun at work? It’s no wonder why when Statista surveyed 50,000 American employees TJ’s came out on top!
