8 Things You Can Do to Help Ukrainian Families Right Now

Even though you might be a world away, there are ways to support Ukraine.

During this intense time of crisis in Ukraine, the world has one singular question: how can we help?

While we cannot literally put our arms around the terrified people escaping the Russian invasion, there are ways we can provide assistance to those on the ground. From providing hot meals at border crossings and much needed hygiene kits, to psychological support and hope, these organizations are helping the Ukrainian people when they need it the most.

Save the Children

Save the Children's Ukraine Crisis Children's Relief Fund is continuing the work it has done for over a century. Funds donated are assisting refugees who need assistance now, and will provide food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial support and cash assistance.

Razom for Ukraine

Razom is focusing entirely on getting medical and tactical supplies to Ukrainian hospitals. Financial and equipment donations are welcomed as they partner with other Ukrainian organizations to get much needed aid to medical professionals within the country.

Doctors Without Borders

Doctors Without Borders is working to get medical supplies and doctors to Ukraine amidst the Russian invasion. A shipment of 1,400 cubic feet of supplies, including equipment, medicine, surgical kits, trauma kits and basic necessities for intensive care, ER's and operating rooms has already been received. Additionally, the organization is set up at the Polish-Ukrainian border and in Poland assessing medical needs.

Samaritan's Purse

Samaritan's Purse is in the process of setting up an emergency field hospital in Lviv which will have two operating rooms that can handle 14 major surgeries or 30 minor surgeries per day. Donations will help support the close to 60 inpatient beds (with four intensive care unit beds and four step-down beds), and the 100 patients the ER will be able to handle. The hospital will also have its own pharmacy, water and sanitation system.

USA for UNHCR

USA for UNHCR is assisting refugees in their darkest hour, providing necessary supplies and hope. Donations go to immediate needs and other essentials like tarps, education grants, clean water and sleeping mats.

CARE

CARE is currently helping in over 100 countries and is in the trenches helping the Ukrainian people, too. Donations are currently being prioritized to help the elderly, women, girls and families to provide immediate aid and recovery, food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial support and cash assistance.

World Central Kitchen

José Andrés founded World Central Kitchen after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, and his organization has been providing food relief to those in need ever since. Donations to WCK are helping to provide hot, nourishing meals at a 24-hour pedestrian border crossing in southern Poland, as well as Romania, Moldova, and Hungary. Within Ukraine, WCK is working with restaurants to deliver hot meals to those in need.

Kyiv Independent

Media coverage of the events in Ukraine have been vital and the Kyiv Independent has been integral in reporting the events of the invasion. A fledgling newspaper at just three months old, the group has started a GoFundMe to keep operations afloat, in addition to a separate fundraiser to support more media activities throughout the country during the war.
