Corn Kid is taking the world by storm
If you’ve not yet been introduced to the kid who loves corn, your life is about to change for the better. Tariq, aka “Corn Kid,” is melting hearts all over the world with his love of this super tasty cereal grain. He first appeared on the web series, Recess Therapy, where host and comedian Julian Shapiro-Barnum, interviews kids in and around New York City and posts their responses online.
While there are some pretty adorable runner-ups, Tariq wins top prize for finding corn, tasting it, slapping some butter on it, tasting it again, and falling in love before our very eyes. “I mean just look at this thing, I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing, it’s corn!” Tariq said in one video. Not only was a song made about him by The Gregory Brothers about his priceless adoration of maize, he’s now South Dakota’s official Corn-bassador.

He caught the eye of South Dakota governor Kristi Noem after she watched one of his videos, quickly declaring Sept. 3, 2022, Official Corn-bassador Tariq Day. Perhaps the way he signed off his first video: “Have a corn-tastic day” did the trick.

The seven-years-old’s excitement for corn will turn just about anyone’s bad day around. The pure joy Tariq finds eating it is only overshadowed by the fact that, until recently, he didn’t know it existed. “Ever since I was told that corn was real…” he said in his first video, talking through a corn-filled mouth to Shapiro-Barnum, describing it as “a big lump with knobs.”
While he admits not everyone needs to like corn as much as he does, he’s ready to chat it up with the people that do. “If you or anyone loves corn, if you come to me, I’ll tell you all about it,” he said.

His popularity has only continued to rise. Chipotle featured Tariq (and corn, but that’s secondary) in a recent ad, and he’s now doing work on the app Cameo, where you get personalized videos from celebs. For anyone who wants a corn-filled message from Tariq, you’ll need to cough up $220. We think this is a small price to pay to have a piece of the Corn Kid all to yourself.
