This is truly a biopic for the ages

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story appears to be a music biopic like none that have come before it yet should remind you of exactly every single biopic that came before it. In the ultimate biopic parody, we follow a bushy-haired, albeit much more buff, Weird Al (played by Daniel Radcliffe!) on his journey through the (usual) ups and downs that make any music legend “unique”—the disappointed parents; the sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll; and the eventual hopeful ending.

“My whole life, all I wanted was to make up new words to a song that already exists,” Radcliffe-as-Weird-Al explains while looking at a container of bologna. (You know where this is going.)

From there, we see his rise to fame under the tutelage of Rainn Wilson, who plays Dr. Demento, and his “relationship” with Madonna, played by Evan Rachel Wood. The film, which also features Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey, was announced in January and will premiere in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will then be available to stream for free on The Roku Channel on November 4.

Music biopics have risen in popularity since Bohemian Rhapsody won big at the Oscars, with Elton John’s Rocketman not far behind. Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis is now one of the highest-grossing movies of this year, so it just makes sense that Weird Al would get in on the action.

The description for the film says it “holds nothing back, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.”

We’re completely on board.
