It’s sad news from the comedy world: Ali Wong and husband Justin Hakuta are parting ways. The couple, who have been married for eight years and share two daughters, are getting a divorce.
The news was confirmed to PEOPLE, with a source sharing “It’s amicable and they will continue to co-parent lovingly.” The news comes just two months after the comedian dropped her Netflix special, Don Wong, which was packed with hilarity––among them, her references to staying monogamous.

The pair, both 39, met back in 2010 and went on to marry in 2014. Since then, they’ve welcomed daughters Mari and Nikki, seven and five into the world. In her Netflix special, Wong shares, “He proposed, we got married, we bought a house, had two kids. Fast-forward to seven years later, present day, I’m, like, I don’t know why I did that. I think that what happened was, at the time, my future in comedy was looking very uncertain.”
While the official news broke just this Tues., Apr. 12, fans felt there were plenty of uncomfortable moments in Wong’s third Netflix special that pointed to trouble in paradise. While her jokes about being the breadwinner and other marital issues were cloaked in humor, viewers now think that signaled the news we now know. “‘I don’t know if I can make it in this world on my own. So I better trap this dude who graduated from Harvard Business School so that I don’t end up homeless.’ But now, I know that I can make it on my own. So I kind of wanna just be on my own. Only other married people with kids can empathize with the deep envy I feel towards you single people. OK, you don’t know how free you are,” she goes on.
Regardless, Wong is destined to maintain her girl boss status and be a stronghold for her two daughters.
The actress, comedian and author penned Dear Girls: Intimate Tales Untold Secrets and Advice for Living Your Best Life, a more than honest reflection of all the things she’s learned over the years. While the girls are too young to read about the perils of their mother’s single life, one day they will more than appreciate her raw honesty and humor as she clawed her way to success.
