Be a coach, not a referee

Encourage problem solving skills!
Use this two-step process to invite tinybeans to manage their disputes with sibling and friends on their own:

(1) Describe without judgment – “Brother is upset because Sister is playing with all of the pirates and Brother would like to play too.”

(2) Ask the children for suggestions – “How can we find a way to solve this?”

Kiddos won’t always have the ability to create a solution on their own and may need suggestions.

But the more opportunity they have to solve their own disputes, the better they will become at arbitrating issues without parental involvement.
