How over-tiredness can thwart your goals

It’s a common misconception that if you keep babies awake for a long time, they’ll sleep better.
In fact, the opposite is true! Staying awake too long can elevate cortisol, which can lead to restlessness.

That means that well rested tinybeans tend to nap and sleep better at night, while over-exhausted little ones often have trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep peacefully.

How long should newborns stay awake? Well, most have trouble staying awake longer than 1-2 hours without getting over-tired.

If your little one has been awake for 1.5 to 2 hours, aim to create a soothing environment so they can drift off and recharge.
