The key word here is “might.” The 90+ Study, a research project that is tracking 1,800 seniors who are (no surprise here) 90 plus years old, found that some everyday behaviors may contribute to a longer life. So there’s pretty much never a consensus when it comes to whether a glass or two of wine a day is good or bad for you. If it seems like there’s always a study telling you that wine has health benefits, but wait…no it might not, you’re not wrong. And this study is no different. photo: pexels.com While the 90+ Study researchers did find that the participants who drank modest amounts of alcohol daily lived longer, other research doesn’t entirely support this conclusion. Some experts site data from the Seventh-Day Adventists, who tend to live well into their eighties and abstain completely from alcohol, as an argument against the idea that drinking can extend the lifespan. The 90+ Study also found that people who drank moderate amounts of caffeine daily (between 200 and 400 milligrams per day) lived longer. This doesn’t just include coffee. Tea, chocolate (yes!) or any other caffeinated food/beverage could have the same effect. What does this mean for you? Well, it might mean that modest drinking and caffeine consumption can help you to live into your nineties too. Or it might not. Do you think that drinking alcohol and consuming caffeine can lead to a longer life?
