Is Ellen Ending Her Daytime Talk Show? Here’s What She’s Said

Here’s a question you probably didn’t think you’d hear anytime soon, “Is Ellen ending her talk show?” Following a recent, candid profile of the comedian in The New Your Times, the daytime TV super-celeb made waves, including sparking rumors about retirement.

So is Ellen retiring? It doesn’t look like the comedian is taking a break from show business anytime soon—but she did speak candidly about the possibility of ending her popular daytime television talk show. While DeGeneres didn’t give an answer one way or another, it’s totally understandable that at some point in time she’d want to move on.

Come on, how long can she really dance her way into America’s lives? DeGeneres told the Times, “There’s been times someone wants a picture, and while I’m doing a selfie, they’re like: ‘You’re not dancing!,’” DeGeneres revealed. “Of course I’m not dancing. I’m walking down the street.”

Known for her constant smiley, sunny disposition, DeGeneres’ dancing, joking ways aren’t all she’s about. She’ll release her a standup special on Netflix on Dec. 18—her first standup special in over 15 years. While her career started in standup, we tend to think of Ellen as the completely kind-hearted daytime interviewer who gives out crazy-huge checks and helps to make some of the most deserving people’s dreams come true. But she’s also a comic with an edge—and that’s pretty much what you’ll see on her standup special.

In her profile for The Times, DeGeneres talked openly about her new standup special, “I wanted to show all of me.” She also added, “The talk show is me, but I’m also playing a character of a talk-show host. There’s a tiny, tiny bit of difference.”

For now you can still catch DeGeneres on her daily talk show and, starting Dec. 18, on Netflix.
