While we all know May is dedicated to moms (hello, Mother’s Day!), it is also National Inventors Month. To celebrate, USA Gold pencils and Scholastic just launched “The Next Great Inventor” contest. The contest asks students to develop and describe in 100 words or less an original invention. Teachers can also participate in the contest and incorporate STEM-themed projects into their curriculum to get kids excited.

Six grand prizes of $500 each will be awarded to students with the best inventions in the following categories: Grades 1–2, grades 3–4 and grades 5–6. The teacher of each Grand Prize Student Winner will also receive a $100 gift card, plus a year’s supply of U.S.A. Gold® pencils and other school supplies valued at $400.

The contest is open to teachers at public schools, private schools, and homeschool families. The deadline for entry is May 12th, so hurry up and start inventing!
