Obviously, there’s Kim and Kanye’s North West (and Saint as well); Gwyneth named her daughter Apple; and Demi Moore and Bruce Willis famously named their kiddos Tallulah, Scout and Rumer. So when it comes to celebrity baby names, we’ve kind of come to expect something not of the norm. And that’s exactly what Beyoncé and Jay Z have done — for the second time. Recently, Jay-Z explained his twins’ name choices to Elliot Wilson and Brian Miller on their podcast Rap Radar. And here’s what he had to say: When the mega-mogul power couple revealed their twins’ names, everyone kind of went, “Huh?” Sir and Rumi aren’t exactly common. Or rather, they aren’t at all common. Where did these distinct monikers come from? As it turns out, Sir was just a “Sir.” Jay-Z told Wilson and Miller, “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.” Okay. Some kids come out and their names just fit them. It looks like this was the case for little Sir. What about Rumi? If the name sounds familiar, you probably remember it from your college lit class. Jay-Z explained, “Rumi is out favorite poet, so it was for our daughter.” What do you think of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s baby name picks? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
