Fun fact: Griffith Park is over 5 times bigger than NY’s Central Park. With hikes, zoos, museums, beer (!), trains, playgrounds, ponies, golf, a carousel and lots more (all costing very little or nothing at all) it’s time to click through the slideshow and discover a baker’s dozen of the coolest places you just might not have visited in our gigantic urban forest.

The Autry Museum’s Free Tuesday

The Autry Museum is always a wonderful space to explore with kids, but on Tuesdays it’s even better, because it’s free. The museum that celebrates the culture and history of the American West has become one of our favorite museums in the past year, as the California Continued permanent exhibit opened, and the newest temporary show, Play!, is utterly amazing for kids of all ages.

Bonus: This is still the Wild West! When you’re tots are tuckered from the museum, head outside to the great grass expanse adjacent to the buildings. Not only can kids play in the grass and under the trees, if you go to the back of the field, there’s a paddock, where local riders will often stop to rest their mounts. Kids love the chance to meet the modern city cowboys and girls and their rides.
