There’s no shortage of magic coming to Disney theme parks this year. While we wait with bated breath for Galaxy’s Edge to open its doors, there is plenty more to be excited about when visiting the selection of parks at Walt Disney World. Keep scrolling to see all the attractions, shows and eateries you won’t want to miss.

Disney Skyliner

Disney Parks

If you've been missing the Disneyland Skyway to Tomorrowland, you'll be elated to find that WDW will be opening The Disney Skyliner in the fall of this year. The gondola-styled attraction will connect Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios with more than six miles of cable! The ride includes 22 gondolas that rise from 15 to 60 feet off the ground in adorable character designs and can last from five to 15 minutes depending on when riders decide to disembark. Unlike the bucket-style of Disneyland, the new gondolas will have two wooden benches that can accommodate up to 10 guests.

Rivers of Light

WDW News

Disney's Animal Kingdom is about to get lit up with its new Rivers of Light show, a nighttime extravaganza heavy on symbolism and storytelling. Told with a mix of water, fire, nature and light, the originally-scored shore will be performed on select nights and is bound to be a showstopper!

Beauty & The Beast Themed Bar

Disney Parks

Taking over the old Mizner’s Lounge and Commander Porter’s at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the new Beauty and the Beast-themed bar will have four unique spaces inspired by your fave film! The amazing gold chandelier is the main show stopper, pairing the beauty of Belle's gown and of course, the rose. No word yet on the menu, drinks or opening day so stay tuned so you can be their guest!

New Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Location

Walt Disney World

The Grand Floridian is getting another update in the form of a new location for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The hotspot will take over the current Ivy Trellis Salon and be Walt Disney World's third location. Because of its popularity, the Magic Kingdom's boutique is also getting an upgrade next spring which will add more chairs and a magic mirror so even more littles can enjoy a magical transformation.

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway

WDW News

While Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway isn't set to open until Spring of 2020, we are still excited for the attraction that gives riders a 3-D experience––no glasses needed. The new ride, which replaced the Great Movie Ride, follows an original story involving Goofy taking control, a new theme song and state-of-the-art technology. California visitors can also expect this attraction to hit the Disneyland Resort sometime in 2022.

Expecting? Looking for an intimate, unique spot to host a baby shower? Think there’s a diva (or divo) on the way? Check out The Love Shack, an unconventional, high-glam space that also happens to bill itself as a “life-size dollhouse.”

photo: The Love Shack

Built on Love
The Love Shack was first envisioned in 2009 by Alexander (a photographer, video editor and furniture designer — um, check this out), and Britta Love when the newly-engaged couple decided to move from London to NYC. (Yes, that’s their real surname.) Three years later, a ‘little palace in Brooklyn’, as they like to call it, was born. Working together, this couple transformed an abandoned industrial building in Bushwick into two, life-size dollhouses.

The “Palace”: Live, Work, Love
Here’s the deal: The Love Shack serves as the Love’s permanent home and studio, but they are happy to rent it out for small, special events such as baby showers. They consider it, “an experiment in the possibilities of loft living, surreality and commercial space.”

The Lovely Perks of the Space
The Love Shack features an outdoor garden with patio umbrellas, a working domestic kitchen, two bedrooms, an intimate library space and an unexpected “indoor balcony” perfect for a toast.

Despite its size, the 1,000-square-foot loft still feels spacious with its white walls and high ceilings. Almost all the furniture or light fixtures are original creations, so the overall aesthetic of the space is playful, funky and elegant.  And even though it’s located steps from the streets of Bushwick, The Love Shack feels like a tranquil escape.

How to Plan for a Shower at the Love Shack
The hourly rate for booking The Love Shack depends on when you’d like to host your party. The hourly rate for daytime events is $175/hour, while evening affairs run $200/hour. (The hourly rates apply to set-up and clean-up time, not just festivities, so plan accordingly.) The Loves recommend booking the Love Shack 6-8 weeks ahead of time, although showers have been booked much shorter notice. (Email is the preferred form of contact; get in touch at Britta@LoveTheLoveShack.com)

There is no catering or service staff provided on-site, but you are welcome to hire in catering or use the full kitchen. Champagne flutes, wine glasses and tumblers rental available upon request.

The Love Shack is a relatively small space so the average guest list is 20-30 people with a maximum capacity of 50 people.

Bells & Whistles & Cats
The Love Shack also includes a full sound system, chandelier and lamp dimmers to adjust for your desired ambiance, and three very friendly (and mostly sleeping) cats. An air purifier runs 24/7 to remove any dander from the air, so allergens have not posed a problem for attendees thus far.

The Love Shack is predominately rented for baby and bridal showers, but occasionally holds first-year birthday parties and other photographic events upon request.

Back before iPads had the monopoly (pun intended) on your kid’s free time, there were board games. From silly to serious, we rounded up some nostalgic picks. You’ll find ones that make you say “I remember that!” as well as a bunch the whole family can still enjoy.

1. Old Maid: It was a card game any kid could master as long as you kept a straight face and didn’t get stuck with the Old Maid! With quirky characters like Milkman Mo, Ballet Betty and Fifi Fluff,  you gotta wonder — how many rounds did you play on rainy days?

2. Aggravation: Let your kids aggravate each other the same way you did with your siblings with the classic marble race board game. Roll the die, jump the board and don’t lose your marbles!

3. Battleship: You never had more fun sinking ships than when trying to beat your best pal! Let your video gamers have a hand at this classic war game for some old-time entertainment.

4. Chutes and Ladders: Nothing like climbing to the top and having to slide back down again. Going way, way back, this slippery slope of a game has been entertaining kids for generations. Find a re-vamped version like Chutes and Ladders Super Hero Squad for a modern-day touch.

5. Boggle: Before Bananagrams were a hit, Boggle was the go-to game for exciting word play. Shake up the lettered die, flip the timer and go! What was the weirdest word you ever found?

6. Trouble: It was the Pop-o-Matic feature that made this game irresistible. Over and over again, you would roll the dice by popping the plastic in the middle of the board. Try playing this on your next game night; we guarantee everyone will want to get into Trouble.

7. Don’t Break The Ice: It’s like a wintery version of Jenga — only with hammers and blocks of ice. Who didn’t crack the cubes a few thousand times before getting it just right?

8. Bed Bugs: Recently re-released by Patch Toys, this hilarious, squirming, pick-em-up motorized game from the ’80s is back. Kids always have a blast trying to pluck those creepy crawlers out of bed. Sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite!

9. Fireball Island: After crossing the bridges and avoiding pitfalls, the giant tiki always seemed to drop the dreaded fireball right as you reached the ruby treasure. With light up “idols” and marble ramps, it was easy to get fired up on game night.

10. 13 Dead End Drive: If you got out alive you might just inherit riches. Trying to knock off other players with three dimensional traps like the the chandelier, the bookcase and yes, that fireplace, made this Clue-like game irresistible to kids in the ’90s.

11. Pick-up Sticks: Five, six … pick up sticks! This classic game has been around for decades and never goes out of fashion. Simple without being boring, it made you shout for joy when you got that final stick.

12. Crossfire: A favorite with the little dudes in the ’80s, Crossfire was like a mini hockey table with rapid-fire marble launchers attached. And that commercial complete with epic battle and lightening storm? Priceless.

13. Cootie: Kids have been building cooties since 1949 and it never gets old. This tabletop game for up to four will have you waxing on about the olden days while building new memories with your own family.

14. Sorry: It was never so easy to say sorry while sending your opponent back to home base! Kids as young as six can handle this board game, and it’s a blast to bump family members off their track.

15. The Game of LIFE: With taxes, jobs, and all that “real-life” stuff, whether you ended up in the mansion with no kids or the shack with two sets of twins, the road down this game was always an adventure.

16. Girl Talk: Instead of texting about boys, we had Girl Talk. Which mom out there didn’t play a round or three during a Saturday sleepover? And how many “zits” did you end up wearing?

17. Jumanji: Yes, you had rhinos and lions chasing you down the board. No, you didn’t have the potential danger of sprouting a monkey’s tail out the back of your pants. Based on the book and movie, this jungle game was an adventure in itself. And it’s okay to admit it — you always secretly hoped Robin Williams would show up for some fun.

With a name like Mother’s, you know your family will feel right at home dining at this award-winning (best comfort food, best brunch, best lunch spot) bistro in downtown Portland. Chef and Owner Lisa Schroeder is a mother and grandmother herself, and she prides herself on serving “mother food,” or slow-cooked dishes made with love. The chandelier-filled restaurant boasts a relaxed ambiance, as the friendly staff infuses a welcoming vibe throughout your meal. With very reasonable prices — most brunch entrees ring up at under $10—Mother’s is the perfect choice for an enjoyable meal out with little ones.

Kids may even drum-up an impromptu playdate by bonding with children seated at other, closely situated tables. There’s something to suit everyone’s taste and diet, from meat-eaters to vegans and those who are gluten intolerant. Children may order from the kid’s menu; but entree portions are large enough to divvy up with a kiddo who shares your taste.

Wild Salmon or Tofu Hash, handmade Pierogi, Mother’s Reuben, Breakfast Nachos (which pile ingredients atop red roast potatoes instead of chips), and a homemade buttermilk biscuit breakfast smothered in country sausage gravy are standouts alongside delicious signature egg dishes. If you arrive after 11:30 am, an extensive list of mouth-watering sandwiches is also available off the lunch menu.

Fans of sweet over savory brunches will be wide-eyed over Mother’s Belgian Waffle, which is magically moist on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Crunchy French Toast dipped in cornflakes, and buttermilk pancakes with chocolate chips round out the delectable offerings for those who opt for griddle-prepared fare.

Don’t miss the Fair Trade, organic French Press coffee selection to indulge in a strong, sophisticated dose of caffeine—perfect for keeping up with your tykes for the rest of the day!
