In a recent press release, co-founder Dax Shepard recalled the reason he and Bell embarked on this venture together: “We know parenting is hard enough as it is. Parents shouldn’t have to choose between what’s good for their baby and good for their budget.”

We could not agree more—and that’s we already checked out the gorgeous Hello Bello website. As part of the first offerings, you’ll find laundry detergent made with organic soapberries ($13.88), sunscreen with non-nano zinc oxide ($9.78), shampoo and body wash made with organic botanical extracts ($6.98) and even diaper rash cream with soothing organic oils ($7.98).

Not to be outdone by rival baby service The Honest Company, Hello Bello also offers a diaper bundle service! Starting at $65, each bundle comes with seven packs of diapers, four packs of wipes and one freebie with your first order. Pick up to seven adorable prints and choose your delivery frequency so you’ll never run out of diapers again.

For Dads without Paternity Leave, Dove Wants to Help—with $5,000 Grants

John Legend’s baby-filled Pampers’ Super Bowl commercial is ALL about the dads. With a little help from a chorus of fab fathers—and one notably famous face (and voice!)—this game day ad is pure parenting perfection.

Legend may have achieved rare EGOT status—but there’s no escaping the less-than-glamorous job of having to change your kid’s diaper, celeb dad or otherwise. If you missed Pamper’s “stinky booty” commercial during its Super Bowl debut, the commercial kicks off with something we’ve pretty much all had to deal with: one very stinky baby booty.

With a little backup from a chorus of crooning dads, Legend changes that diaper. But the commercial doesn’t end there. The diapering duty switches to another singing celeb and his beautiful baby. Yep. That’s Super Bowl halftime performer, Maroon 5 front-man (and new dad) Adam Levine.

Legend and Levine’s Super Bowl ad is part of Pamper’s “Love the Change” campaign, which celebrates the roles that dads have in their babies’ lives. In a recent press statement, Vice President and General Manager Baby Care North America for Proctor & Gamble, Andre Schulten, said, “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate hands-on dads like John than by welcoming another fantastic dad, Adam Levine, into the Pampers family and taking the Stinky Booty Duty song to a whole new level on Super Bowl Sunday.”

Schulten went on to add, “Celebrating dads is just the beginning of a meaningful future for our brand, as we commit to helping parents to ‘love the change’ that comes with life with babies. While every transition might not be always be easy, Pampers wants to help parents and babies ‘love the change’ together.”

It will be months before your newborn will utter anything that sounds like real word, and probably a year or more before those sounds turn into words with real meaning behind them. So how are you to understand your newborn’s wants and needs now? Luckily, babies are equipped with ways to communicate right from birth. The trick is figuring out how to recognize and interpret them. Here are six tips that will have you on your way to reading your baby like a book.

In a Mood

Identifying your newborn’s mood is a good place to start. There are six states of consciousness for a baby. In deep sleep, her eyes will be closed and her body still. In light sleep, her eyes may open briefly and she may move or startle more easily. Drowsy is when baby is sleepy or dozing but isn’t fully asleep yet. Quiet alert is when she is awake, but her body is still and she seems focused. Active alert is wide awake with movement of the face and body. The last state is crying, in which she may squirm and be difficult to soothe. Knowing what state she is in will help you know the best way interact with her.

Body Language

A newborn’s body can say a lot. Sucking on hands or fingers is a sure sign that he’s hungry, as is rooting (turning his head to the side and opening his mouth). Turning his head away when you attempt to play is a sign of overstimulation. Then it’s best to wait until he turns back to you to try to play or talk to him. Rubbing his eyes, yawning or a glazed over look indicates he’s tired. Don’t wait, put him to bed right away. A smile lets you know your baby is content or happy. Smile back and revel in it. Telling him how much you like his smiles encourages him to do it more.

Cry Like a Baby

The number one tool a newborn has to communicate is crying. The Dunston Baby Language, or DBL, method is a way to listen to baby’s pre-cry noises and cries to decode them into something parents understand. You can train yourself to hear one of five phonetic sounds your little one will make prior to crying. Each sound has a different meaning, like “neh” that translates into “I’m hungry.” Then you can respond accordingly and avoid a meltdown. You might also notice your babies cries taking on different pitches or intensities. Identify what kind of cry it is and what works to soothe that particular cry.

Little Babbler

By two to three months old, babies will be able to vocalize beyond crying to communicate. They will coo and babble, imitate voice inflection, and even laugh. This is the beginning of a conversation between you and your little bundle of joy. Reply to her noises, narrate your activities for her when she’s awake and alert, and pause to let her contribute to the conversation.

Start a Schedule(ish)

Foster a schedule for your newborn. Though the schedule will be less about watching the clock and more about noticing the rhythm of your baby’s day. Use a simple chart to keep track of his eating, sleeping, and diapering needs. At first it may not feel like there is any rhyme or reason to these things, but once you start to pay attention, you will notice patterns appearing. You can use these patterns to more easily recognize what your newborn is needing at that time of day. There’s even an app for that! Two to try are My Baby & Me and Baby Log.

Know the Signs

What better way for baby to communicate what she wants than by actually telling you? Not with her mouth but with her hands. Babies are able to use sign language long before they can talk. As early six months old, she has the cognitive and motor skills to begin signing. It’s best to introduce the concept well before her half-birthday as it usually takes a few months before she will do it on her own. Here are some great starter signs to try.

The fact is you’re the expert on your own newborn. By paying attention, listening, observing and loving your baby, you already have the most important tools you need to understand what they want. Babies will fuss, cry and laugh, but your love for them will speak loud enough for the two of you.

What successful ways have you tried to figure out what your baby wants? Let us know in the comments.

It’s not often a show comes to town with mass appeal that excites the fresh-out-of-diapers crowd as much as the ones in charge of the diapering and the boys as much as the girls. Marvel Universe Live fits that bill and it’s storming the Chicago market Sept. 10-20.  Read on to see why your family will love watching this electrifying battle go down a few short feet from your seats.

The Story
At no point in Marvel’s history has this many characters been assembled in one place at one time – 25! – so a story had to be imagined that brought them together for a common purpose.  The mighty Thor destroys the Cosmic Cube, the source of ultimate power and the most feared and coveted treasure in Marvel Universe, to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.  His villainous brother Lokie steals a piece of the cube and creates a clone fueled from the powers of captured X-Men.  It’s up to the superheroes to combat Lokie to save the fate of the world.

Facts About the Show

  • Let’s start with the important stuff. The show is 90 minutes, with an intermission at the 40-minute mark, which is perfect for little ones who might need a potty break.
  • Because of the length of the show and the level of action, it’s best for kids ages 4 & over.
  • When you arrive, you’ll notice a mostly gray set.  But a very specific gray that allows the production crew to create the brightest images that realistically transport the audience around the world during the course of the show, using more computer power than it takes to power a space station.
  • Just for this show, a 3,000-lb car that can be piloted by a human, yet rolled, raced and caught on fire was created.  And, it still reports for duty fully intact for the next show.
  • The range of action of the show – from pyrotechnics to movie-style effects and stunts – will definitely engage audiences, boy or girl, across all ages.  However, there’s humor thrown in directed at the parents in the crowd.
  • There isn’t a bad seat in the house. All areas of the arena are fully engaged and the cast has been trained to give the same experience to people sitting in the front row as those sitting in the top rows.  Because of the stunts and effects, it’s almost like seeing a completely different show from every seat in the house.

Add to the Coolness Factor
It’s definitely a splurge at $25, but consider picking up the Lectro Link wristbands available when you purchase your tickets or when you arrive at the arena.  The Lectro Link is a device created as a collaboration between Iron Man and Spiderman that can be remotely controlled by Iron Man.  What this means is that at three different points in the show, Iron Man lights up the wristband on your child’s arm – which is a highlight.  Once the show is over, it’s a fun keepsake that lights up at the push of a button.  To help offset this cost, parking at both venues is free!

The Windy City Connection
Over the course of two years of research, design and rehearsals, Chicago mom and producer of this groundbreaking show, Juliette Feld, was pregnant with her now 10-month old daughter.  Juliette knew she was on the right track with the production when during rehearsals her daughter, still in her tummy, would become very active during the most high-energy points.  So there you have it, a show that truly appeals to all ages.

One last note, don’t be shy to break out your favorite Marvel superhero costume and play dress up with your kids. It’s a common occurrence at this show and highly encouraged.
