1. Easy

With Camilia Teething Liquid Doses, forget about fussing with syringes or searching for little dosing cups at 2 a.m. (we’ve been there). Snap off one single dose, twist to open and squeeze the pre-measured treatment directly into your baby’s mouth. This tiny amount (0.034 fl oz to be exact) of liquid does the rest. It’s tasteless and clear in color, so no mess. It’s fool-proof, even in the middle of the night.

These single-use capsules make Camilia Teething Liquid Doses sterile and hygienic, plus ideal for families with multiple teethers. Pop some in your diaper bag or pocket, these small but mighty doses are perfect on the go.

2. Natural

Unlike traditional pain medication, Camilia Teething Liquid Doses are water-based and made with plant-based active ingredients, including chamomile, and are free of benzocaine, flavors, dyes, lactose, sugar and artificial sweeteners—all of that stuff you don’t want. The self-contained individual doses eliminate the need for a preservative, so none of those either!

3. Trusted

Camilia has been soothing babies for 25 years and is a Mom’s Choice Awards winner and recipient of the Parent-Tested, Parent Approved seal of approval. Camilia Teething Liquid Doses are made by Boiron, the world leader in homeopathic medicine, so you can rest assured these are the real deal.

4. Worry-Free

It’s like they thought of everything! Because there’s no numbing agent, there’s no risk of numbing the baby’s gag reflex or latch ability. With no numbing, Camilia Teething Liquid Doses also won’t mask symptoms that could be a sign of a more serious health problem. You don’t need to know your baby’s weight for dosing or struggle to rub medicine onto your baby’s sore gums, plus their plastic applicator is BPA-free.

5. Widely Available

You can find Camilia Teething Liquid Doses at a variety of stores near you, including Walmart. We love a deal: Red Tricycle readers can get a coupon to save $2 on Camilia Teething Liquid Doses at Walmart! Get Your Coupon

Ford issued a recall for nearly 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S. from model years 2011 to 2016 to replace faulty door latches, which can become unlatched while driving.

Ford

The recall, involving numerous models of Ford and Lincoln sedans, crossovers, and vans, covers vehicles that were recalled in 2015 and 2016 for the same issue but may have not had all of the latches replaced or, if they were replaced, it may have been done incorrectly.

The recall population was determined based on a Ford investigation that found that some latches were not replaced or replaced correctly during recalls 15S16 and 16S30. Ford will be providing the means for the customers to self-inspect and report via a website or an inspection at a dealership to determine if the door latches were replaced correctly.

The affected vehicles include 2011–2014 Fiesta, 2013–2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013–2015 Escape, 2013–2015 C-Max, 2012–2015 Focus, 2014–2016 Transit Connect, 2013–2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles.

Owners can inspect the latches on their vehicle and submit the latch date codes online to see if they need to be replaced. They can also bring their vehicles to their local Ford dealer where they can have the latches inspected.

Ford will replace defective latches free of charge. Ford owners can contact Ford customer service at 866–436–7332 or check the NHTSA recalls website to see if their vehicle is involved in the recall.

17 Ways to Keep Your Kid Busy in an Airport

I already know what you might say. You are already tearing your hair out, ready to throw in the towel on routines! It’s certainly easier than arguing with a teenager who’s lost motivation. Or, a first-grader who is having trouble understanding Singapore math—and you don’t know how to teach it!

So, I wanted to just come out and say—let’s stop any judgments. Right now. You never thought you had signed up to be your child’s teacher. In fact, you might even be a teacher but it’s a whole other ball game to teach your own children.

What I am going to tell you is likely the opposite of what you might be hearing. You first need to acknowledge your frustration, your disappointment, and your fears around this virus, the situation, your lack of control and maybe even your anger! Stuffing it down won’t help.

Okay not that this was nearly enough acknowledgment, I want to tell you where I started when I converted my entire business to online learning (ahem Zoom!) and share what we are learning as we navigate virtual learning with kids K-12.

First, if you and your kids are struggling with this new style of learning, it’s been a learning curve for the educators as well. What we are reminding our families is that this moment is a call for everyone to be more compassionate with ourselves. If teaching doesn’t come naturally don’t sweat it, you don’t have to be good at everything.

Listen, as a CEO I outsource everything, so when I am down a person—I always start hopeful at the beginning of the week and then somewhere around day four the panic sets in. My nerves feel frayed and I feel like a thousand people keep asking me the same questions! Does this sound familiar?

In fact, I have been hearing from a lot of our families that the experience has really shown people how hard teaching really is!

Start Small and Make It a Family Affair

Have everyone pick their study spot. Then make it their routine learning space. Like picking a chair in school, this is their spot and they can organize it how they want. They have to keep it clean and organized and tidy and that is how they get to help you. Having this routine virtual learning space will help your child feel safe and secure. In fact, routine learning spaces help children relax and recall what they are learning better.

You want to create a school routine. Now it’s essential that you get your kids involved so they can feel “part of” the solution. The added benefit is that daily routines reduce chaos, decision making and simplify your day. They know where they need to be. Plus routines make children feel safe, especially in an ever-changing world. Routines make the world feel predictable, like a security blanket. Introducing a sleep schedule can also help regulate your child’s mood. Have you ever noticed that when your child doesn’t nap at the scheduled time, you have more meltdowns?

It’s okay to play. Remember all that time you have been wanting to spend as a family. Guess what you got your wish (perhaps not in the best of circumstances but there is always a silver lining)! Tell your kids to put down the devices and head outside.

If you struggle with teaching, can your kids help participate in your day? Have everyone plant a garden together or cook together. A lesson doesn’t need to be elaborate, it just needs to be inclusive.

Make sure that you are scheduling regular intervals of “work” and “play.” Caitlin N, one of our instructors suggests taking regular “breaks” to keep the attention going. In fact for younger children, some of the learning may look like play! That is a good thing. Many children learn kinesthetically and through play.

Don’t forget to talk about their feelings. Paul M, another one of our executive functioning instructors, suggests touching base on how your kids are feeling about downtime or virtual learning. It’s a big sacrifice to put our community first and not get to play with their friends. If you have older kids, you might even be dealing with a lot of disappointment around missing major milestones. It’s okay to be sad.

Then share how you are handling it making sure to stay away from talks about fears and anxiety. Your especially sensitive kids will latch onto the anxiety-like candy. Don’t let them go there. Feelings are catching so if you are struggling with positivity right now—my biggest tool with adults—write a gratitude list. It will help you ground your space and turn your attention to what is good.

If you are having trouble getting your child back into a routine, the first couple of days might be harder but as your child does it more, the repetition becomes relaxing. Start with something simple like getting back into bedtimes, then restart school times, adding a little more each week. Just like tightening braces—we don’t do it all at once!

Do you ever feel like you’re parenting from a crouched position? Sure, I literally crouch to talk to my kids at eye level, to pick up toys before someone trips, and to find that missing sock. But I also crouch mentally—constantly prepared to pounce on any problem that comes my way.

Moms are at the ready. All. The. Time.

We are ready to bear hug a child fearing a flu shot, whip up dinner in five minutes flat, sing the ABCs on repeat, and keep walking through the sleet when their toddler falls asleep in the stroller. Ready to unearth a Band-Aid from a forgotten purse pocket, change wet sheets at 2 a.m., pump if the baby won’t latch, and come up with a logical consequence for every new form of naughtiness.

We relentlessly plan for the day, knowing full well that something will derail along the way. A playdate will turn sour. The milk will run out. The babysitter will get pink eye. The broccoli will (heaven forbid!) touch the mac and cheese on a dinner plate. A loving brother will devolve into a pest. One twin will wake after 30 minutes and the other after 2 hours. Someone will forget to pack a snack. Toothpaste will squirt on my shirt. School will get canceled because of a virus scare.

This is what makes parenting so exhausting, both physically and mentally. We have to be ready, even when we’re (in theory) off-duty. Case in point, my 3-year-old will wake us both out of deep, peaceful dreams just so I can smooth out her blanket—which she doesn’t even want on her, just precisely placed along her side. Ugh.

And so, we channel Pete the Cat and just keep walking along, singing our song.

Even with that catchy, optimistic feline soundtrack playing in my head, living in a constant state of on-call is hard work. Thankfully, it provides ample opportunity to model for my kids how to handle with grace whatever life sends our way. Kids are sponges in many regards. They certainly soak up their parents’ behavior—good and bad. Resilience in the face of setbacks is a character trait I strongly hope my kids soak up. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

In a family of six, there are plenty of chances for plans to go awry. And, hence, teachable moments abound.

I’m careful not to make empty promises to my kids, given that Plan A can quickly shift to Plan B, C, or D. For instance, we may have planned an outing to Central Park with a classmate, but if it starts to rain or the friend bails, I take a moment to say, “Oh, bummer, that’s too bad we can’t scoot in the park with Jake today. I hope he feels up to playing soon. Plus, it’s rainy anyway, so this would be a great day to head to the library. I wonder if they have any new graphic novels to check out?” And off we go.

Changes to plans like this are so frequent in our family that it doesn’t even phase my kids anymore. Does the airplane has screens on the backs of the seats? Cool. If not, no biggie—we are always prepared with our bags of tricks. Someone’s too short to board the carnival ride? Then let’s walk over to that barn and see the farm animals instead while the others get dizzy. We forgot the cookies in the oven and now only the tops are salvageable? Sounds like a great topping to crumble over ice cream!

If the plan has to change because of a mistake I made, I try to acknowledge my fault in front of the kids. My husband’s new job schedule means I’m now on school drop-off duty, so I have been re-figuring out my morning routine. In the elevator the other day, I admitted, “Whoops, I made a mistake. I didn’t set my alarm early enough and had to rush through the shower to get everyone to school. Next time, I’ll try to start exercising earlier to leave more cushion time. Sorry it got so hectic this morning.” Hugs and kisses. “Let’s go have a great day!”

They see me recognizing a problem and my role in it rather than just dishing out blame and yelling, “You guys are old enough to get yourselves ready for school! Why do I come out of the shower only to find unpacked backpacks and shoeless feet?! Can’t you see the clock?” They also see me making a plan for how to go forward and wrapping up the conversation on a positive note.

It still amazes me that I’m in charge of raising four tiny humans. I know I can’t do this depending upon my own strength. I take comfort knowing that, even when the day spins out of my control (because even my Ziploc bag of granola bars, playing cards, and Wet Wipes has its limits), I have a Good, Good Father in charge of the master plan. With that perspective, this on-call mom can calmly handle any curveball our messy world throws my way.
