Ask a little girl what they want to be when they grow up and you’ll get a variety of answers, many of them similar—fireman, dancer, doctor, singer, pilot, maybe a mommy or a police officer. You’d probably rarely hear the word entrepreneur. You might hear CEO.

Not every girl will want to grow up and start her own business. But the skills and concepts kids learn from entrepreneurship at a young age can help prepare them for whatever path they choose in the future.

If you have a young girl in your life—a daughter, niece, sibling or friend—you may see certain characteristics that may make you think, “This kid is going to be in charge someday—of something.” Entrepreneurs come in all shapes, sizes, temperaments and personalities, of course, but many have similar traits in common.

If you spot these in a young girl, they are good traits to encourage and develop.

She’s a natural leader.

Natural leaders aren’t always just telling other people what to do, and even kids who seem shy may have leadership tendencies. Leadership attributes can look different in each individual. Your daughter may have a knack at assembling a team of people and getting a group project done. She may be able to easily identify someone’s skills and match them up with the perfect task.

Maybe she’s someone who marches to the beat of her own drum or would rather blaze her own trail than follow the crowd. All of these things point to signs that she’s a natural leader.

She’s willing to take risks.

We’re not talking about being risky for the sake of being a daredevil here—the kid who climbs the tallest tree at the park or wants to ski the black diamond runs before she’s ready is not going to necessarily start her own business by 17.

But a girl who’s not averse to starting conversations with adults, speaking her mind with confidence, talking in front of a group about her passions or spending money to make money (e.g. allowance money for lemonade stand supplies) may show signs she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone when there may be a payoff. In fact, taking a risk may be a lot more attractive to her than playing it safe.

She’s doesn’t label herself.

It’s natural for people to want to categorize themselves, kind of as a way to say, “Here’s where I fit in,” “I want to help people, so I want to be a nurse,” or “I want to work with kids, so I want to be a teacher”—these are normal things you might hear a kid say when asked what they want to be when they grow up.

Natural entrepreneurs may not think that way, however—they may not be looking for a place to fit in as much as a way to stand out. If your child hems and haws when she’s asked, “What do you want to be someday?” don’t take that as a negative sign. It could be that she wants to create her own place in the world.

She’s self-motivated and driven.

Maybe you rarely have to ask about homework because she often has it done before you even get the chance. Or maybe she took it upon herself to start learning a second language or some other skill simply because she’s interested, not because she has to.

Is her list of extracurricular activities longer than either you or she has time for? Natural-born entrepreneurs are often driven to go beyond the status quo and have ambition to accomplish and do more than what’s expected.

She problem-solves.

The Warren sisters—Lilly, Chloe and Sophie—started their company, Sweet Bee Sisters, when they realized that their parents’ beehives were not going to produce enough honey to sell, only enough for their family and maybe a few friends. Then they noticed the beeswax. Could that be worth something? They did some research, started producing lip balm, and have since expanded their product line to include lotions and sugar scrubs.

This is a perfect example of problem solving: Honey wasn’t going to make them much money, but another byproduct of the bees certainly could. If you know a young girl who thinks less in terms of “we have a problem” but more with the mindset, “let’s find a solution,” she may be born to be a business owner.

This isn’t an exhaustive list. And we’re not saying if your daughter doesn’t have these traits, she won’t be an entrepreneur. These are simply traits that might suggest you have a budding future business owner on your hands.

Nurture them. Encourage her. And let her know that, above all, she’s capable.

Sometimes that’s all a girl needs to hear to get the wheels in her head spinning with possibilities.

When it comes to summer camp planning, you’re usually juggling schedules and signing up way in advance. When the big first day of camp finally arrives, make sure you’re prepared with a few simple steps brought to you by moms just like you, who have been there, done that and made it through. Read on for our top summer camp prep tips any parent can use.

1. Stock up on supplies.

iStock

You’ll need extra Band-Aids on hand, bug spray and sunscreen. Plenty of sunscreen. Find the best brand and buy two, because most camps where kids are outdoors will want you to send a sunscreen and often bug repellant with your kiddo. To help your kiddos apply the sunscreen to their faces effectively, consider a stick lick this one. Great for little noses.

2. Label everything.

school labels
Name Bubbles

Do yourself a solid and order some preprinted, peel and stick labels like these ones. Then stick them on everything: hats, water bottles, sunscreen, even lip balm. Don’t assume your kid will keep track of everything even if they do a good job of it during the school year. It’s summer camp. All bets are off.

3. Be prepared for the aftercamp affect.

iStock

Just like after school, kids that finish a day of summer camp are usually hungry when you pick them up. Keep some post-camp snacks in your car or backpack for pickup. Be aware that kids are often tired, emotional or even cranky after the first few days of camp. Having a cold fresh bottle of water and their favorite tunes to play can help them decompress from a day jam-packed with sensory processing.

4. Do a dry run. Then add 15 minutes to it.

Pexels

Unless your kiddo's summer camp is at the same location as their school, try out the commute before the first day. Time yourself to see how long it will take, and don't forget to factor in things like the pick-up line or a crowded parking lot. Many camps also require a parent to sign or check-in and check out their child each day.

5. Order more than one camp shirt.

IStock

If your camp has cute, brightly colored shirts it's worth ordering more than one so you aren't constantly washing them every night. Kids get next-level grubby at summer camps, so this is a mom hack that will save you time.

6. Dress for success.

iStock

As previously mentioned, kids don't stay clean at summer camp so don't send them in their best clothes. Easy on/off pants or shorts for quick bathroom breaks are an essential since kids won't always know the layout of the place, especially on the first day. That being said, accidents happen, so pack a complete change of clothes for your kid in their pack each day. We suggest a large Ziplock bag that you can label with your child's name, which can double as a dry-bag for any wet or muddy clothes that get sent home.

7. Update your emergency contact list.

Take into consideration vacations and work schedules in the summer, and update your just-in-case contacts accordingly. If it's usually your best mom friend but you know they'll be out of town two out of the three weeks your kid is in camp, designate an alternative.

Are you looking to satisfy your sweet tooth? Now you can savor the delicious taste of OREOs without consuming a single cookie. This OREO flavored lip balm will soon become your new favorite.

The lip balm was first seen on Instagram after being shared by Snack Betch.

According to the post, the lip balm was found at It’Sugar, a candy store with more than one hundred locations in the United States. The product is also available online, although it’s already sold out on Amazon

OREO lip balm

The product’s description on Amazon states, “At first glance, you’d think this lip balm was an actual cookie! Our design team is happy to bring you this fun cosmetic Oreo cookie lip balm. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love that delicious Oreo flavor?”

The OREO flavored lip balm was developed and marketed by Taste Beauty, a cosmetics company that aims to “bridge the gap between fun and cosmetics!”

This isn’t the first time Taste Beauty has created a lip balm inspired by the sandwich cookie. In March 2019, OREO and Taste Beauty collaborated to create an OREO lip balm that “smells and tastes just like your favorite cookie.”

The first edition did not come in an OREO shaped container, rather it featured a traditional twist-up design imprinted with an OREO pattern. Originally, the “Stuf Lip Balm” was only available through a contest, but now it can be purchased online.

Whichever balm you choose, you will enjoy smooth lips that taste like your favorite treat.

Some expectant moms have their hospital bag sitting by the front door weeks in advance, while other moms throw a few things in their duffel bag as they’re timing contractions. No matter how prepared you are, it’s important to pack the essentials such as comfy pajamas, slippers, lip balm and according to one Wisconsin mom, a Nerf gun.

Samantha Mravik-Miller shared a photo to Facebook from her hospital bed after delivering her baby. Instead of a picture of her new baby, it was a picture of the Nerf gun she packed in her hospital bag to make sure her husband didn’t sleep through the night while she was awake with a newborn.

Nerf Gun

Having been through labor and delivery before, she knew what to expect. Mravik-Miller said, “This came about because when my son (who’s almost 6) was born my husband slept through him crying when we were in the hospital. I had lost my voice due to being on oxygen and one of the nights my call button was also out of reach. I remember having to throw an empty water bottle at him to try and wake him up to help me.”

This time around Mravik-Miller was having a scheduled c-section so she knew she would need more help than with her previous delivery. As she was picking up the house before leaving for the hospital she spotted the Nerf gun and thought to herself, “I’ll have better aim with this than a water bottle!”

After the excitement of welcoming her new son, Mravik-Miller forgot all about packing the Nerf gun until she asked her husband to grab something out of her bag. When he asked her about it, she said, “All the better to wake you with!”

Moms will be ready to travel with kids in tow or travel solo in style with these must-haves to get you from take-off to smooth landing.

1. Cori Traveller knows that moms on the move already have their hands full, trying to keep an eye on their kiddos in busy airports, watching over everyone’s luggage, and being sure everyone’s documents are in order. That’s why these fully adjustable neck pillows come with a handy loop for attaching to carabiners or straps, ensuring you never lose the pillow and giving moms the most comfortable rest they can get while trying to sleep sitting up on a plane or in a car.

2. Traveling is fun but is dehydrating. These Made by Fressko tea and fruit-infused water bottles are sleek, stylish and sustainable and give mom a helping hand to reach her daily water intake. Each comes with a removable infuser that is perfect for hot or cold tea or creating delicious infused water.

3. Solve the earbud tangle drama moms know too well with Lasso. This smart product is easy to use, accommodates earbuds, charger cords, necklaces and, as a bonus, Lasso can be used to store rings and small earrings inside the barrel. Lasso easily fits inside purses and travel bags, is shatterproof, and BPA-free.

4. Winter wear usually means hot and sweaty but not anymore. Stay chic and sweat-free with these clever Thompson Tees. These undershirts have patented, sweatproof technology, have no chemical treatments, and are machine washer and dryer safe.

5. Moms are often expected to have the fix to everything at their fingertips—and that’s never truer than when the family is on a trip. With the Geekey, it’s now literally possible. It’s 16 tools in one but still barely bigger than a house key.

6. Are your kicks looking a little dingy, or are your once white soles now gray? SneakERASERS’ pre-moistened sponges are designed for on-the-go touch-ups. Now you can quickly and easily remove those impossible scuff marks, grime, and smudges from soles and rubber logos without the need for messy applicators, brushes or sprays. SneakERASERS’ unique composition of sponge and shammy is created with an all-natural cleaning formula. The white side of the sponge works great on smooth uppers and logos, while the orange shammy side wipes away residue and gives you an excellent grip. SneakERASERS come in small, individually wrapped packaging that will fit in even the smallest travel bag.

7. Keep your lips moisturized and refreshed with lip balm from FOUR: Organics. They use a special blend of four 100% organic ingredients, Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Peppermint Oil help you pamper your lips.

8. Sleeping while traveling is hard but that doesn’t mean you have to look like you didn’t get a good night’s sleep. With the Celestial Silk pillowcase you can say goodbye to creases on your face and any sort of plane/train/car bed head.
