As we approach your 3rd birthday I can’t help but reflect back on these past years.

It’s just been you and me from the start.

And although some days feel like an eternity, I still catch myself wondering, ‘Where has the time gone?’

God made me the luckiest woman alive when he chose me to be your mom.

Thank you for your tender kisses, and for your ferocious hugs.

For showing me in return all the heart and soul I have poured into you, and for your gentle ‘I love you’s’ to remind me of why I will never stop.

Thank you for making me a better mom every day.

For teaching me more patience than I ever knew I was capable of, and for still loving me unconditionally in the times I don’t.

Thank you for your strength and perseverance.

For reminding me every day of the miracle of a spoken word, and for giving me every reason to believe in hope for the future.

Thank you for being uniquely you.

For allowing me to step into your world, to see all the wonder, magic, and beauty within, and for your forgiveness in the times I can’t always.

Thank you for the lives you are touching, and the mindsets you are changing.

For these people will now move forward in their lives with a better understanding of autism, and hopefully will walk through society with more compassion because of you.

You and this world of wonder that I call autism have taught me amazing things about life this past year that I don’t think I would’ve experienced if not for you two.

You’ve both have taught me how to turn my grief into gratitude.

Pain into perseverance.

Sorrows into sacrifices.

It’s surreal to say that a little boy so curious and charming like you, and a world I knew nothing about could teach me the most important things about this life.

I’d choose you in every lifetime Kanen.

The goofiest little goober, I love you more than you’ll ever understand.

Your mom,

Samira

Samira is a 25 year old single mom to a 2 year old son Kanen Arley. Her son Kanen was diagnosed with severe non-verbal autism in September of 2020, which inspired her to start sharing their journey through My Charming Arley on Facebook and Samirasstella on Instagram.

Grammy-nominated performer Elle King is pregnant! The singer and fiance Dan Tooker recently revealed their baby news on Instagram and in a PEOPLE exclusive.

The road to the couple’s soon-to-be baby joy hasn’t been easy. King, who has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), struggled with infertility and pregnancy loss.

King opened up about her fertility issues and subsequent pregnancy losses in PEOPLE saying, “It’s such a major thing that so many people go through, but it’s so secretive—like you have to go through it alone.” The singer added, “Nobody talks about it. It’s like you’re supposed to feel shame; like you’re not supposed to tell people before 12 weeks, because if you lose it, it’s going to be embarrassing for you and you don’t want other people to get their hopes up.”

The couple found out about King’s pregnancy on Christmas, but only recently announced the news publicly. King started her IG announcement with, “Well, we did something! Me and @tattooker made a little human!”

She went on to add, “We are very excited to share the news that we are pregnant. This news comes with a great deal of fear, and I hope that all mothers-to-be, in whatever sense that may be, know that I am trying to be very sensitive. You see, this miracle baby comes after two very big losses. It’s a terrifying and extremely painful experience for everyone. But the sun always rises, and I never really let go to let the universe decide when I was ready. I remember every pregnancy announcement felt like a dagger to me. So I want to be very delicate and say to YOU! That soon to be mom, who’s maybe had a loss, or has been struggling with fertility, I’m telling you, our babies come. And I love you.”

King continued with a shout out to other women who have gone through similar struggles, “What women go through on this journey make us nothing less than WARRIORS. So thank you for your prayers and love for our high risk pregnancy!”

Congrats go out to King and Tooker on their beautiful baby news!

Lisa Tschirlig Hoelzle’s two kids were only playing in the basement for 10 minutes when her son Noah came in with news. Abigail had “something stuck in her hair,” and that something turned out to be a mom’s worst nightmare.

Noah had poured an entire container of “Bunchems” on Abigail’s hair––tiny velcro toys that are normally used to create shapes and animals. The little girl now had nearly 150 of the sticky toys tangled in her hair––a result of the kiddos trying to get them out before calling on mom. Lisa describes the coming ordeal as an “out of body experience” and we tend to agree.

Overall, it took 20 hours for Lisa to remove the tangly toys, using a combination of mineral oil, a comb and a whole lot of patience. Mom even shared with Red Tricycle that “The true miracle was that my Abigail was so amazing with it she was comforting my tears

❤️
.”

Since the ordeal, Lisa shares that she has received countless photos from other families who’ve all dealt with the issue. She was even contacted by an elementary teacher who purchased them for indoor play and one Bunchem got stuck in a student’s hair. The teacher shared that it took the assistant principal and nurse an hour to get out one!

Lisa has filed a formal complain with Spin Master, the maker of Bunchems, especially pointing out the warning label that says “may get tangled in your hair” is not strong enough. She says that an additional warning should be included that addresses that the toys can can become matted in hair––and that including a shower cap would definitely help!

Josh Brolin & Wife Kathryn Expecting Second Child Together

Seven years ago today was one of the most grateful times of my life. We watched videos, signed paperwork, handed over a feeding tube, and loaded up our Jeep and life began. I remember getting on the elevator and the admitting neonatologist got on with us. He proceeded to congratulate us on getting to go home, he wished us luck and then told us that in all his years of practicing he’s never seen such an “on his own terms kid.”

Jeremy and I awkwardly laughed. Little did we know he was right. Whitman has his own story to tell. We’re grateful we get a front-row seat and to be apart of it! He makes us laugh so hard and makes us so proud on the daily. We don’t take this anniversary lightly we know what was at stake. We know how close we were to having a different kind of anniversary when just two weeks before, when Whitman was born, he was not breathing and had no pulse.

So we celebrate this with a light kind of heaviness. Whitman is our miracle. We’ve been told that from the start and he proves it to us on the daily. We celebrate the littlest of victories like getting to come home from the NICU. We celebrate that we never had to go back for RSV or any other complications that could have arisen. We celebrate that he is ours always and forever. That we were able to walk out with our tiny miracle. We were able to snuggle him on our own couch, we were able to love on him in his nursery. We were able to move on from the NICU.

I still have PTSD from our NICU days. When Whit was admitted to the hospital in 2019, I held my breath in the children’s hospital elevator. I saw the parents with that exhausted “I just had a baby it shouldn’t be like that look.” I contemplated hugging them and telling them it gets better. You’ll hopefully get to go home. You’ll hopefully get to show your baby the world when they are ready. We weren’t ready for three months. We had to pick and choose who we saw. We had our own little kind of quarantine bubble. Jeremy and I had clothes in our laundry room. We called it ground zero. If we left for any reason we picked clothes that were in ground zero wore them out came home and immediately put them in the washer and put on our at-home clothes after rinsing off.

We would have done anything to keep Whitman from the NICU. We’d been there. That wasn’t a journey we’d ever want to do again. It made us who we are as parents but watching your child struggle is not the way you imagine you starting your parenting journey. So we celebrate. We celebrate that we survived. We celebrate that we were a NICU success story. We celebrate everything that Whitman has become in these seven years, on his terms naturally.

He’s just the best. He’s so smart, sweet, and has the best sense of humor. Today is the day we celebrate everything that we have. The gratefulness behind it. We have never and will never take anything for granted when it comes to Whitman. Whitman John, you are an amazing human who deserves nothing but the best. Happy Coming Home Day! You worked so hard to come with us and continue to work so hard every day to be a part of our world. You deserve every happiness.

Disney+ just debuted the trailer for the new film, Safety, inspired by the empowering true story of former Clemson University football safety Ray McElrathbey, a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities.

Aided by his teammates and the Clemson community, he succeeds on the field while simultaneously raising and caring for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr. Safety will debut exclusively on the streaming service on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020.

The film stars Jay Reeves (All American, The Tax Collector) as Ray and newcomer Thaddeus J. Mixson as Fahmarr along with Corinne Foxx, Matthew Glave, Hunter Sansone, Amanda Warren, Miles Burris, Isaac Bell, Elijah Bell and James Badge Dale.  It is directed by Reginald Hudlin (Marshall) and produced by Mark Ciardi, p.g.a. (Secretariat, Miracle) and Gordon Gray (Million Dollar Arm, The Rookie) with a screenplay written by Nick Santora (The Most Dangerous Game, The Fugitive). Douglas S. Jones and Campbell McIinnis served as executive producers.

Safety

Hudlin said, Safety is a movie about brotherhood and coming together for the greater good, which is a message our society needs right now.  It’s the story of a young man stuck in a situation where failure is not an option. Through sheer force of will, he does the impossible, which inspires the whole community around him to do the same.  It’s a movie I can’t wait to watch with my family on Disney+ on December 11th, and for families everywhere to do the same.”

Safety

Ciardi added, “For over a decade, I’ve dreamed of bringing Ray’s incredible story to the screen, and now that it’s ready, I’m thrilled that Disney+ is making it available for families to enjoy together during the holidays.”

The Safety original soundtrack features score by critically acclaimed Grammy®-winning jazz musician/producer and composer Marcus Miller (Marshall), plus the original song “Hold Us Together” performed by Grammy®-winning singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist H.E.R., which she wrote and produced in collaboration with Josiah Bassey and Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II.  The Walt Disney Records soundtrack will be available digitally on Dec.11.
