When one mom saw a gap in children’s edutainment, she decided to do something about it. The now-Emmy nominated bilingual series, Canticos on Nickelodeon, is the brainchild of mom Susan Jaramillo. This is a show your tot totally needs.
With brightly-colored bilingual animals that sing traditional Spanish-language lullabies, Canticos is something that didn’t exist in the children’s programming arena prior to Jaramillo. The cute characters first appeared in a set of bilingual board books, published by Jaramillo, her friend Nuria Santamaria-Wolfe and Santamaria-Wolfe’s husband Steven Wolfe-Pereira. Soon after, the trio used Jaramillo’s connections as a top marketing exec to pitch and eventually seal a deal with Nickelodeon.
Jaramillo told NBC News, “Nuria and I shared a frustration over the lack of available bilingual books and media available for children. It really became a shared passion and mission.” The mama, marketing maven and entrepreneur also added, “We wanted to bring all these wonderful stories and songs that were so popular throughout the Spanish-speaking world to new audiences, so Americans would also appreciate all these wonderful songs.”
Canticos debuted on Nick Jr.’s digital platforms in 2018. Your kiddo can meet the lovable bilingual animated animals on NickJr.com, Nick’s YouTube channel, the NOGGIN app and Nickelodeon’s paid subscription app. Nickelodeon is also reportedly working on a consumer products line featuring the Canticos characters for infants and toddlers, set to launch later this year.
Get ready to take unboxing to the next level: YouTube superstar, seven-year-old Ryan of Ryan ToysReview, is coming to Nickelodeon this April! The series, Ryan’s Mystery Playdate, is about to become your kiddo’s new fave—and we’ve got the scoop on this new show.
The new Nick show will premiere on Apr. 19 at 12:30 p.m. ET/PT. Along with the Friday premiere, your tot can also catch a bonus episode on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 12:30 p.m. ET/PT. Look for Ryan’s Mystery Playdate to make regular appearances in your living room on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon.
So what can you expect from Ryan’s new show? Instead of unboxing toys, the seven-year-old, his parents and animated friends Gus the Gummy Gator and Combo Panda will work together to complete creative challenges. With each challenge comes the chance for Ryan to unlock a mystery box that includes hints to piece together the identity of his mystery playdate that episode.
Not only does this new Nick series encourage creative thinking and problem-solving, it also focuses on physical play and positive family relationships. If watching Ryan once a week isn’t enough for your kiddo (and chances are it isn’t), you can also catch full-length episodes and short-form content on NickJr.com and the Nick Jr. app.
The lovable little girl your kiddo watches on repeat is getting an age upgrade! Grab some popcorn and get ready for the live-action Dora The Explorer trailer—because this flick isn’t what you’d expect from the perfect-for-preschoolers original Nick Jr. show.
Forget about the adventures young Dora tackles in the original Nickelodeon cartoon. In Dora and the Lost City of Gold the now-teenage heroine is taking on an even wilder type of exploration—high school. Of course, that’s not all.
During a museum field trip Dora, not-so-surpringly, finds herself in hot water—or rather, a wooden crate. Mysterious captors take the kid-no-more character to the jungle for a very adult-ish adventure. Along with a few high school friends, spunky teen Dora sets out to save her parents (played by Eva Longoria and Michael Peña) in the Lost City of Gold.
Judging by the trailer, this is not a film for your toddler or preschooler. There’s action, arrows, a big knife and yes, Dora’s BFF Boots. Even though the littles totally delight in all things Dora, this live-action adventure is better suited for the older kiddo.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold opens nationwide on Aug. 2, 2019.

From brushing teeth to recognizing letters, preschoolers pick up a remarkable amount before kindergarten. Softer skills like kindness and the motivation to “do good” are just as important, but can feel challenging to tailor to a young crowd. Good news! The title characters of Corn & Peg produced by Nelvana Studios and the latest show from Nickelodeon, are always up to good in their community of Galloping Grove. For more inspiration, we rounded up 5 easy ways to get the good deeds going early and often in your family and community.
1. Help Out At Home Home really is our first community. There are different people to consider, common spaces to share, and rules to make everything run smoothly. And because preschoolers nearly always want to be involved with what you’re doing, make a fun activity out of it when you can. Ever seen a kid’s glee with a spray bottle? Let them wash the windows! Finding those ways to let them help gives them feelings of satisfaction and accomplishment—wonderful rewards for doing good that might just make them feel like little superheroes, too, the way Corn and Peg, do.
2. Volunteer Together Whether it’s a neighborhood garden project or an informal beach cleanup day, keep your eye out for activities you and your kiddo or the whole family can participate in. The experiences enrich the young lives you’re raising and show them the fruits of their labor, like a cleaner beach for all to enjoy. By the time community service is expected of them later in school, it will already be second nature.
3. Express Appreciation Wherever You Go In Galloping Grove, for instance, Corn and Peg’s good deeds might help out a postal worker, the sheriff, or the mayor. Similarly, get kids in the habit of thanking those who serve the community at large. Let them help pick out gifts for Teacher Appreciation Day, bring a drawing to that next doctor’s appointment and simply say “thank you” to whomever lends a hand throughout your day.
4. Trot the Talk The phrase “food insecure” has come to the forefront, so go ahead and teach it to your kids, who may share the lunch table with kids who don’t have as much as they do or run up against food insecurity themselves at some point in their schooling. Raise the topic organically, as you involve a kid in meal prep. Or, the next time a picky toddler rejects a homemade meal, talk about “food waste” and what can be done with food we don’t finish.
5. Be on the Litter Lookout Kids notice everything! Whether you’re at the playground, out on a soccer field or hiking a trail, they can pretend to be little litter police and have fun while doing good, just like Corn and Peg. Make it a habit of carrying an extra bag for some trash pick-up from time to time. Leaving common spaces a little cleaner than you found them benefits—and respects—everyone.

Have a preschooler with a problem or two to solve? Luckily, Nickelodeon’s Abby Hatcher (created and produced by Spin Master Entertainment) has arrived just in time. With Abby’s surefire mix of empathy for her Fuzzly friends and motivation to help them through any mishap, preschoolers can catch cute Fuzzlies along with Abby and catch on to inspiring ways to work through common challenges. Read on for five “fuzztacular” ways you and Abby Hatcher can help your preschooler build a critical life skill like problem solving, empathy and determination!
1. Help Them Understand Others In this new show, a lot of focus is put on helping preschoolers manage their emotions (like many Fuzzlies learn to do), but empathy—one of Abby Hatcher’s strongest qualities—is all about understanding somebody else’s feelings, too.
•How Abby will help teach your kids empathy: She is determined to find out what each Fuzzly needs to feel included and useful around her family’s hotel. Abby’s mission isn’t always easy, as she first has to learn how each Fuzzly communicates. After all, we don’t all turn different colors depending on our emotions, like Bozzly! Throughout her adventures Abby consistently reveals how empathetic she truly is.
• What you can do: While kids need to understand right from wrong, that binary thinking can also cause conflict. Try redirecting that energy to better understanding another person’s point of view, as Abby does, and give your preschoolers the language to ask how a friend feels about something.
2. Help Them Be Motivated to Take Risks As parents, we’re used to coming to the rescue when little ones need a hand learning how to walk or sharing a toy with a friend. Now that preschoolers have reached many self-care milestones (and likely have major opinions about them—hello, threenager!), stepping back so your kiddo can take the lead is a new, important step for any parent.
• How Abby will help teach your kids motivation and to take risks: At the first hint of a Fuzzly problem, Abby and her best pal Bozzly “GEAR UP” into Fuzzly Catcher mode. They’re ready for anything, and that’s a great feeling to give kids who might be intimidated to try something new.
• What you can do: Designate a “problem solving” cape like Bozzly’s your preschooler can don for a confidence boost, or special shoes like Abby’s Pogo-Springs that help her hop to it. If your little one is already eager to dive in, wait before offering a helping hand. If they do turn to you for help, show them how to regroup and jump back in.

3. Help Them Try and Try Again If a Fuzzly is in need of her help, Abby Hatcher isn’t one to give up the first time her plan doesn’t quite work—or even the third.
• How Abby will help teach your kids persistence and determination: What’s useful for preschoolers to see is the way Abby adjusts her plan each time, which shows different approaches to one situation. Everyone might learn a little differently, too, and still arrive at the same result. Similarly, Abby is accepting of all Fuzzlies and their unique abilities.
• What you can do: Emphasize to your kiddo that Abby’s type of determination and critical thinking can serve them well as they learn things that take practice, like reading or riding a bike.
4. Help Them Team Up From the get-go, Abby and Bozzly make a great team. Abby is quick to rescue Bozzly when he runs into trouble and Bozzly pulls a helpful gadget or gizmo from his pouch when Abby is in a bind. The buddy system is also a great approach for preschoolers, whose attention spans are expanding.
• How Abby will help teach your kids to team up: Abby’s loyalty to Bozzly is admirable and he reciprocates that allegiance. This dynamic duo exemplify the buddy system, which can be a great approach for preschoolers, whose attention spans and ideas of friendship are expanding and developing.
• What you can do: Teamwork opportunities abound with classmates, siblings, playgroups, as well as us parents when it comes to solving cool problems, too, like how to build the biggest fort! Make believe, after all, might be the most magical part of these preschool years. Help them use their big imaginations and team up like Abby does with Bozzly and her Fuzzly friends!

5. Help Them Find the Fun in Everything While great role models like Abby are vital, we as parents remain a powerful presence for years to come.
• How Abby will help teach your kids to find the fun: Let kids in on your secrets to success, whether that’s sharing a problem you faced at work and how you resolved it or getting your partner on board to model best communication practices around the kids. And all of this should include an awesome attitude like Abby’s. She is all about finding the adventure with enthusiasm and optimism, no matter how tricky things get.
• What you can do: So, if you and your preschooler are having fun even when challenges arise, or “catching a hug” like Fuzzlies do when needed, then you are teaching another critical life skill: coping. And coping mechanisms help preschoolers and parents alike set out to solve problems, big or small.
